Checking
the Engine Oil
Onlyusehigh qualitydetergent oilrated with APIserviceclassification
SF,SG,SH,orSJ.Selecttheoil'sSAEviscosity grade according to
theexpected o perating temperature. Follow thechart b elow.
Although multi-viscosity
oils(5W20, 1 0W30, e tc.)improve s tarting
incold weather, they willresult i nincreased oilconsumption
when
usedabove32°1:. Checkyourengine oillevel m ore frequently toavoid
possible engine damage fromrunning lowonoil.

To checkthe engine oil, proceedas follows:
Ensurethatthe tractoris on a levelsurface.
Clean the oil fill area of any debris.

Removethe dipstick and wipewitha clean cloth.
2,
Insertand tighten dipstick.
3.
Removethe dipstick and check the oil level.It should be at the
Full mark on the dipstick. See Figure 9.

If low,add oil slowly into the engine oilfill. Do not overfill. A fter
adding oil, wait one minute and thenrecheckthe oil level.

Replaceand tightendipstick.
Changing

Theengine oilshouldbechangedin thefirst5 hoursandthenevery50
hours or oncea season. Tochangethe engine oil,proceed as follows:
1.
With engine OFF but still warm,disconnectsparkplug wireand
keepit awayfrom spark plug.
2.
Removethe oil fill capldipstickfrom the oil fill tube.SeeFigure9.
3.
Turnthe steeringwheelall lhe wayto the right to betterexposethe
drain plug.
4.
Clip the oil drainsleeve (packedwith this manual)onto the oil drain
port. Routethe oppositeendof the sleeve into an appropriateoil
collectioncontainerwitha capacitygreatenough tocollect t he used
oil,
5.
Removethe oil drain plug,The oil will beginto drain out of the
engine.
6.
After the oil has finisheddraining,replacethe oil drain plug and
tighten.Be carefulnot to overtighten.
7.
Removethe oitdrain sleeveand storefor lateruse.
8.
Refillthe engine withnew motoroil untilthe oil levelon the dipstick
reads FULL, Replacethe oil fill cap/dipstick.

the Oil Filter

Drainthe oil from the engineas describedabove.

Removethe oil filter and disposeof properly.See Figure10.

Beforeyou install t henew oil filter,lightlylubricatethe oil filter
gasketwith fresh, clean oil.
4.
Installthe oil filter by hand untilthe gasketcontacts the oilfilter
adapter,thentighten the oil filter I/2 to 3/4 turns,

Add oil as describedabove.
6.
Start and run the engine.As the engine warmsup, check for oil
leaks.
7.
Stop the engine and check the oil level. It should be at the FULL
mark on the dipstick.
