Intended use
The Cadwell Sleepmate
Respiratory Effort Sensor is intended to detect respiratory effort
™
from chest or abdomen movement during sleep research and clinical studies of sleep. This
Belt is intended for use in supervised medical settings.
Instruction for use
Place the sensor on the patient's chest or abdomen. Use a piece of adhesive tape over each
"wing" of the sensor to attach it to the patient's chest to acquire a strong and stable Effort
Signal. It is ok to allow the tape to lap over on to the main sensor body; however do not use a
single piece of tape across the entire sensor or allow the 2 pieces of tape to overlap each
other. This will greatly reduce the output signal or result in no signal. Secure wire in a manner
to avoid entanglement with patient. NO interface or external power source is necessary
because the sensor produces its own signal. Connect the sensor to the appropriate channel
input of your recorder.
Ensure the sensor is securely attached to the patient as described and you have clear, reliable
signals prior to lights out.
Cleaning
You can clean the system by rubbing with any cleansing agent that is not corrosive toward
plastic.
The sensor must be completely dry before using again to insure patient
safety. For sterilization implement a standard procedure for gas sterilization. Do not
autoclave this product.
Use the molded ends of the connectors when removing the sensor from the junction box.
