Please carefully read the safety instructions and the user manual before using this product. Keep away from children. Use the device
only as specified in the user manual.
The kit includes: optical multimeter, cotton swabs, bag, user manual, and warranty.
Install batteries
Open the battery compartment cover and insert 3 batteries according to the correct polarity. Close the cover.
Getting started
Press the power button (4) and hold it for 3 seconds to turn the device on/off.
Press the power button (4) to enable/disable the auto-off option, and then observe the corresponding icon on the screen. When the auto-off
option is enabled, the device will automatically turn off in 60 minutes.
Press the Light button (5) to turn the backlight on or off, or it will automatically turn off in 60 minutes.
Press the OP/RL button (7) to switch between the optical power meter function and visual fault locator function. The optical power meter
function is set by default.
Optical power meter
This function is intended to test optical power.
1. Connect one end of the fiber cable to the optic connector (1); plug the other cable end into the corresponding connector of an optical light
source (external device).
2. Turn on the external optical light source (external device).
3. Press the ʎ/Frequency button (8) to select a wavelength value (850nm, 1300nm, 1310nm, 1490nm, 1550nm, or 1625nm).
The wavelength value of the optical multimeter and the wavelength value of the light source must be the same.
4. Press the dBm/W button (3) to select the units of measurement to measure the absolute optical power or relative optical power.
5. Press the REF button (6) to display the last saved reference value (the default value is 0dB).
6. Press the REF button (6) to measure the optical power. The result will be displayed on the screen.
7. Press and hold the REF button (6) to save the value as a reference value.
Visual fault locator (VFL)
The visual fault locator function is used to test fiber cables.
1. Plug one end of a fiber cable into fiber optic connector (1) for VFL and leave the other end of the cable disconnected.
2. Press and hold the OP/RL button (7) to enable the visual fault locator function.
3. Press the ʎ/Frequency button (8) to select the light emitting mode: continuous light or pulse light.
In case of no breakage in the cable, the red LED on the end of the cable will light on. If the fiber cable is damaged, the damaged part
of the cable will glow red.
