Focusing
Auto-focusing: Set thè camera's switch to thè auto
focus mode. When thè shutter release button is piessed
lightly, focusing will be performed automatically.
• When performing auto-focusing, do not touch thè
focusing ring since it will rotate automatically.
Manual-focusing: Set thè camera to thè manual focus
mode. While looking through thè viewfinder, rotate thè
lens' focusing ring to adjust thè focus as desired
Focusing can also be performed by setting thè distance
index on thè lens to thè figure on thè distance scale
corresponding to thè distance to thè subject. (Fig. ;C').
Aperture setting
The AF (auto-focus) lens does not nave an aperture ring.
To set thè lens aperture, consult thè camera's
Instruction booklet and follow thè instructions given
there.
When thè lens is focused on a given subject, not only
will that subject be in clear focus, but a certain distance
m front and back of thè subject will also be in clear
focus; that range of clear focus is called thè "depth of
field.".
The depth of field scale indicates thè approximate range
within which clear focus will be produced at various
aperture (f-stop) settings. Notice that this range changes
depending on thè distance from thè subject and thè
aperture setting chosen. For information regarding use of
thè depth of field scale in photography, consult thè
Instruction booklet furnished with your camera. (Fig. @ ).
About thè infrared compensation mark
When using infrared black and white film, thè point of
focus changes slightly from that produced with normal
films. As a result, compensation of focus is required.
First, perform focusing normally without using any filters
on thè lens, and note thè distance indicated on thè
focusing ring. Then, attach any desired filters and turn
thè focusing ring slightly so that thè aforementioned
focusing ring number (distance) is aligned with thè
infrared compensation mark (red line). (Fig. ©).
• When using infrared color films, consult thè
instructions provided with thè film.
• Infrared photography should be performed using
manual focusing.
Notes regarding use
• When dust or diri adheres to thè surface of thè lens,
use a blower or soft lens brush to remove thè dirt; to
remove fingerprints, wipe gently with a commercially
available lens paper. Do not exert unreasonable pressure
when wiping!
• To clean dirt from thè lens body, wipe gently with a
soft cloth. Never use benzine, thinner, or other solvents!
• When a lens is removed from thè camera body, be
sure to replace thè front and rear lens caps, and store in
a well-ventilated piace away from humidity and dust.
• Do not touch thè Auto-focus signal contact. Touching
thè contacts may deposit oil or dirt, resulting in poor
electrical contact.
