Pivotable main handle
Only work with the main handle (15) engaged.
See illustration C on page 2.
- Push in the button (16).
- The main handle (15) can now be turned 90° to
both sides and can be engaged.
- Make sure that it is securely positioned: the main
handle (15) must be engaged and it should not be
possible to move it.
5.4
Battery pack
Charge the battery pack (12) before use.
Recharge the battery pack if performance
diminishes.
Instructions on charging the battery pack can be
found in the operating instructions of the Metabo
charger.
Battery packs have a capacity and signal display (6)
(depends on design variant):
- Press the button (5); the LEDs indicate the charge
level.
- The battery pack is almost flat and must be
recharged if one LED is flashing.
WPB 36-18 ...:
- Use always two Metabo 18-Volt slide-on battery
packs.
- Recommended capacity 5.5 Ah and greater.
- We recommend the use of battery packs with
identical item number.
The use of battery packs with different capacity (Ah)
is permitted. In this case, the battery pack with the
smaller capacity (Ah) determines the useful life.
Safety clip:
Battery packs with the designation "DS" have a
safety clip (19) (see fig. B, page 4). This feature is
part of a multi-piece system with the purpose to
prevent battery packs from falling when working at
heights.
5.5
Removing and inserting the battery pack
See illustration A on page 2.
Removing:
Press the battery pack release (11) button and
remove the battery pack (12).
Inserting:
Slide in the battery pack (12) until it engages.
6. Attaching the grinding wheel
Prior to any conversion work: remove battery
pack from machine. The machine must be
switched off and the spindle at a standstill.

Use only accessories that
are covered by at least 3.4
mm by the safety guard.
For reasons of safety, attach the cut-off
grinding guard before performing cut-off
grinding work (see Chapter 11. Accessories).
6.1
Locking the spindle
- Press in the spindle locking button (3) and
turn the spindle (2) by hand until the spindle
locking button engages.
6.2
Placing the grinding wheel in position
See illustration D on page 2.
- Fit the support flange (1) on the spindle. The
flange should not turn on the spindle when
properly attached.
Place the grinding wheel on the support flange (1).
The grinding wheel must lay flat on the supporting
flange.
6.3
Securing/Releasing the 2-hole nut
Securing the 2-hole nut (9):
The 2 sides of the 2-hole nut are different. Screw the
2-hole nut onto the spindle as follows:

- X) For thin grinding discs:
The edge of the 2-hole nut (9) faces upwards so
that the thin grinding disc can be attached
securely.
Y) For thick grinding discs:
The edge of the 2-hole nut (9) faces downwards
so that the 2-hole nut can be attached securely to
the spindle.
- Locking the spindle. Turn the 2-hole nut (9)
clockwise using the 2-hole spanner (10) to secure.
min. 20 Nm!
- Note: as an alternative to fastening using the two-
hole wrench (10), you can tighten the two hole
nuts (9) as follows:
Lock the spindle. Firmly tighten the two hole nuts
(9) by hand. Hold the edge of the grinding wheel
and manually rotate it clockwise by at least 1/2 a
rotation.
Releasing the 2-hole nut:
- Lock the spindle (see chapter 6.1). Turn the 2-hole
nut (9) anticlockwise using the 2-hole spanner
(10) to unscrew.
7. Use
Always guide the machine with both hands.
Switch on first, then guide the accessory
towards the workpiece.
Avoid switching on the machine accidentally:
always switch it off when the battery pack is
removed from the machine.
Always hold the machine with both hands on
the designated handles, take a secure stance
and concentrate on the work.
