The new lA™ 400 power amplifier is a two-rack space, solid state, stereo power amplifier capable of
delivering more than 200 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms with less than 0.1% THD. The unit has been
designed to reliably drive a constant 70 volt distributive line system. The amplifier employs a unique
grounded bridge design to eliminate the need for a transformer at the output. This considerably lowers
distortion and allows for a much higher bandwidth. This amplifier also has no problem driving speakers
directly, 260 W RMS per channel into 4 ohms. The lA 400 amplifier has provisions for various input cards.
FRONT PANEL FEATURES
SPS™ LED INDICATORS (1)
Illuminates when the amplifier is overdriven to the point that the signal runs out of headroom. With the
SPSTM compression defeated, the amplifier will clip causing noticeable distortion. With the SPS enabled, the
signal will be reduced to prevent clipping.
POWER LED INDICATORS (2)
Illuminates when AC mains power is supplied to the amplifier and the main power switch is turned on. If
either channel were to experience fault conditions, exceed the safe operating temperature limits, or have the
associated reset breaker trip, then the power LED will go out indicating such conditions exist.
CIRCUIT BREAKERS (3)
These breakers are provided to limit the current to the associated power transformer and protect it from
overheating and possible destruction due to fault conditions in the amplifier. The trip current has been
carefully chosen to allow continuous power output performance while still protecting the power transformer.
Normally, these breakers should not trip unless there is a fault in the amplifier circuitry that draws excessive
mains current. However, abnormal conditions such as a short circuit on either or both channels, or continu¬
ous operation at overload or clipping {especially Into low impedance loads) will cause the breaker to trip. If
this occurs, turn the mains power switch off, then reset the breaker and correct the cause of the overload.
A
When tripped, the button on the breaker will be outward nearly 1/2" and can be reset by
pushing inward. A norma! reset length is about 1/4". If this "thermal" type breaker does trip,
then simply pushing the button back in will reset it, after waiting a brief period to allow it to
cool down. REMEMBER, ALWAYS TURN THE POWER SWITCH OFF BEFORE RESET¬
TING THE BREAKER. If the breaker trips instantly each time you attempt to reset it, the unit
should be taken to a qualified service center for repair.
