Putty.
5. Installing Lever Handles
Discard the thread protectors and apply a bead of plumbers putty
or other sealant around the edge of the escutcheons according to
the manufacturer's instructions.
Turn each escutcheon clockwise onto the valves until they contact
the finished wall.
Remove any excess putty.
Close the valves (hot = counterclockwise, cold = clockwise).
Install a skirt and spline adapter over each valve stem.
Secure each skirt with a screw.
Position each handle assembly over a spline adapter and engage
the spline in each handle.
Thread each skirt into a handle assembly until it is tight.
