area. Engine
exhaust contains carbon monoxide,
anodorless,
and deadly gas.

Before cleaning, repairing,
orinspecting,
make c ertain the
blade(s) and allmoving parts h ave s topped. Disconnect
the spark
plug wire and ground against the engine toprevent unintended
starting.
•
Periodically
check tomake s ure the blades come t ocomplete
stop within a pproximately
(5) five seconds after operating
the
blade d isengagement
control. Ifthe blades donot s top within t he
this time frame, your m achine should beserviced professionally
byaSears orother qualified service dealer.
•
Check brake operation
frequently
asitissubjected
towear during
normal operation.
Adjust and service asrequired.
•
Check theblade(s) and engine mounting
bolts a tfrequent
intervals forproper tightness.
Also, visually inspect blade(s)
fordamage (e.g., excessive
wear, bent, cracked). Replace the
blade(s) with the original equipment
manufacturer's
(O.E.M.)
blade(s) only, listed i nthis manual. Use ofparts w hich d onot

Mower blades aresharp. Wrap t he blade o rwear gloves, and use
extra c aution when s ervicing them.
•
Keep a llnuts, bolts, and screws tight tobesure the equipment
is
in safeworkingcondition.

Nevertamperwith the safetyinterlocksystemor othersafety
devices.Checktheir properoperationregularly.
•
After strikinga foreignobject,stop the engine,disconnectthe
spark plugwire(s) and groundagainstthe engine.Thoroughly
inspectthe machinefor anydamage.Repairthe damagebefore
startingandoperating.
•
Neverattemptto makeadjustmentsor repairsto the machine
whilethe engineis running.
•
Grasscatchercomponents and the dischargecoverare subject
to wearand damagewhich couldexposemovingparts or allow
objectsto be thrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheck
components and replaceimmediately with originalequipment
manufacturer's (O.E.M.)parts only,listed in this manual.Use of
parts whichdo not meetthe originalequipmentspecifications may
lead to improperperformanceand compromise safety!

Donot changethe enginegovernorsettingsor over-speed the
engine.The governorcontrolsthe maximumsafe operatingspeed
of the engine.
Maintainor replacesafetyand instructionlabels,as necessary.
•
Observeproperdisposallaws and regulations for gas, oil, etc.to
protecttheenvironment.
•
Accordingto the ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)
and the U.S.Environmental P rotectionAgency(EPA),this product
has an AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7) years,or 270 hours
of operation.At the end of the AverageUsefulLife,buy a new
machineor havethe machineinspected a nnuallybya Searsor
otherqualifiedservicedealerto ensurethat all mechanical a nd
safety systemsare workingproperlyand not wornexcessively.
Failureto do so can resultin accidents,injuries or death.

Tampering with the governorsettingcanlead to a runaway engineand
