If the ID numbers for all MTS items are left in
their original state, then the ID number does not
have to be set.

6. Programming the Reaction Time
for the Arrow Buttons
If you hold down the arrow buttons in the locomo-
tive operation mode, the locomotive will continue
to accelerate or brake. You can program how fast
the individual speed levels are controlled in the
process, i.e. how fast the locomotive accelerates
or brakes.

7. Programming Decoders
7.1 Installing the Programming Module
You can program all MTS locomotive decoders
and MTS turnout decoders with the Universal
Hand Controller. To do this you must remove

• Press on the two grooved tabs at the top of the
Universal Hand Controller and carefully pull the
insert out.
• Insert the programming module.
• There are four colored wires on the program-
ming module:
- Connect the brown and the white wire
directly to the MTS turnout decoder or to a
programming track on which the locomotive
or the car with the decoder to be program-
med has been placed.
- Connect the yellow and the green wire to a
transformer (min. 18 volts / 2 amps).
• Now, plug the transformer into the house cur-
rent.
7.2 Carrying Out Programming
All of the decoders are programmed in the same
manner. In the instructions for each decoder,
you will find the CVs (Configuration Variables)
which you can use to program the settings for the
decoder. For example, the decoder address on all
