Turn the selector knob (cf. lighting performance table).
Configuring the lamp
Three settings are available on your lamp to adapt the lighting performance to your
needs.
Each setting consists of three modes (wide beam, mixed or focused).
- Setting 1: STANDARD: balances brightness and burn time in each mode.
- Setting 2: MAX AUTONOMY: burn time prioritized.
- Setting 3: MAX POWER: brightness prioritized.
The lamp is shipped set to STANDARD.
Configuration steps
1. Rapidly switch the selector knob through two complete cycles.
2. Green LEDs light up on the front. This indicates that you have entered the
settings. The number of LEDs lit indicates the configuration setting of your lamp.
3. To choose or change the setting, turn the knob to light the number of LEDs
corresponding to the desired setting. The configuration code can be found on the
lamp's plate support.
After several seconds, without touching the knob, the green LEDs flash to confirm
your selection. Warning: when the LEDs are flashing, your lamp will light; do not
point the light toward your eyes: there is a risk of dazzling.
When the lamp lights, you can use it normally.
Your lamp saves the last selected configuration in memory, even after switching it
off or disconnecting the battery. When the lamp is turned on, there is no indicator of
the current setting; enter the configuration mode to find it.
Performance - constant brightness
The EU declaration of conformity is available at Petzl.com.
The PIXA 3R offers constant lighting performance over the entire given burn time.
When the rechargeable battery is nearly spent, the light dims abruptly to the
minimum lighting level: reserve lighting. During reserve lighting, the PIXA lamp offers
a comfortable lighting distance of over 5 meters for at least 2 hours.
Battery charge indicator
Reserve lighting is indicated by a bright flash 30 minutes before it starts, then
again upon activation. A red indicator lights on the lamp front when the battery is
in reserve.
Battery/charge
The lamp comes with a Petzl Li-Ion rechargeable battery. Capacity: 930 mAh.
Charge it completely before first use.
In general, Li-Ion batteries lose 10 % of their capacity each year. This battery has
about 70 % of its initial capacity after 300 charge/discharge cycles.
Use the battery at temperatures between -30° C and +40° C. Below -10° C, the
lamp's performance is reduced. Once recharged at ambient temperature, the lamp's
performance returns to normal. Beyond 65° C, the lamp's performance can be
irreversibly degraded.
Charging
Charging time: 3 hours minimum.
1. Connect the charger base to a USB 5 V output source; wall charger comes with
adapter. We do not recommend charging from a computer.
2. Put your lamp directly on the charger base, or only the battery.
The charge indicator lights: flashes green while charging and steady green when
charging is complete. A red charge indicator means there is a malfunction, contact
Petzl. If the charge indicator doesn't light, the connection is bad.
Battery temperature must be between 0° C and 40° C for the charge to be effective.
Warning
Charge only with a USB cable. The charger's output voltage must not exceed 5 V.
Use only a CE/UL approved charger.
Tip: you can mount your charger base to your workbench with two flat head screws
of maximum diameter of 3.2 mm.
Changing the battery
Use only the dedicated Petzl battery intended for the PIXA 3R. Using another type
of battery can damage your lamp.
Battery precautions
WARNING - DANGER: risk of explosion and burns.
Warning: incorrect use can damage the rechargeable battery.
- Do not submerge the rechargeable battery in water.
- Do not dispose of a rechargeable battery in fire.
- Do not expose the battery to high temperatures. Follow the recommended usage
and storage temperatures.
- Do not destroy the rechargeable battery; it can explode or release toxic materials.
- If your rechargeable battery is damaged, do not dismantle it or change its
structure. Dispose of your rechargeable battery in accordance with current local
regulations.
- If the battery leaks electrolyte, avoid any contact with this caustic and dangerous
liquid; see a doctor if any contact occurs. Change out the battery and dispose of
the defective battery in accordance with current local regulations.
Lamp precautions
The lamp is not recommended for children.
Warning: a headband can pose a strangulation risk.
TECHNICAL NOTICE PIXA 3R
Eye safety
The lamp is classified in risk group 2 (moderate risk) according to the IEC 62471
standard:
- Do not look directly at the lamp when lit.
- The optical radiation emitted by the lamp can be dangerous. Avoid aiming the
lamp's beam into another person's eyes.
- Risk of retinal damage from the emission of blue light, particularly in children.
Electromagnetic compatibility
Meets the requirements of the 2014/30/EU directive on electromagnetic
compatibility.
Warning: an avalanche beacon in receive (find) mode can experience interference
when in proximity to your headlamp. In case of interference (indicated by static
noise from the beacon), move the beacon away from the headlamp.
Resistance to crushing and falls - IP index
The lamp can withstand:
- A crushing force of 80 kg.
- A 2 m fall onto flat ground.
The tests were carried out at extreme temperatures (-30° C and +60° C).
The lamp is IP67: it is dustproof and waterproof (immersion to -1 meter for 30
minutes).
Maintenance, cleaning
The lamp is resistant to oils, greases, glues, hydrocarbons, white-spirit and bleach.
- Lamp case and lens: verify that the battery cover is securely closed. Wash with
lukewarm soapy water. Do not use acid. Do not rub with an abrasive product,
especially on the lens. Avoid any prolonged contact of grease with the lens. In case
of contact with grease, wipe with a dry cloth and rinse with water.
If water accidentally gets into the lamp, remove the battery and dry the lamp.
- Band: the band and its mounting plate are machine washable (40° C maximum).
Do not use bleach. Do not put into a clothes dryer. Do not wash with a high
pressure cleaner.
Malfunction
If your lamp doesn't light when the battery is charged, it may be that your light is
in standby mode, following a short-circuit between the two battery contacts (for
example, between two points on a screwdriver in a toolbox). To turn it on again,
charge it for a few seconds, then try switching it on. If your lamp still does not
work, contact Petzl.
Storage
For prolonged storage, recharging the battery to 50 % is recommended. Store it
in a dry place at temperatures between -20° C and +40° C. Avoid allowing your
battery to discharge completely. Recharge it every 3 months. Do not store your
lamp or battery in a hot place (for example, exposed to sunlight in a car).
Transport
To protect the lens, turn the lamp case so that the lens faces the plate. This action
automatically turns off your lamp and inhibits accidental switching-on by locking
the selector knob.
You can transport your lamp in the POCHE (E78001) storage case.
Stroboscopic effect
Warning concerning use of the PIXA lamp near rotating machinery. If the lamp's
lighting frequency (310 Hz ± 10 Hz) is identical to (or a multiple of) the machine's
frequency of rotation, the user cannot see that the machine is rotating.
Protecting the environment
Lamps, LEDs and batteries should be recycled. Do not throw them away in
the regular trash. Dispose of these items by recycling them in accordance
with applicable local regulations. By doing so, you play a part in protecting the
environment and public health.
