OPERATION
NOTE: This tool has an electric brake. When the switch
trigger is released, the chuck stops turning. When the brake
is functioning properly, sparks will be visible through the
vent slots on the housing. This is normal and is the action
of the brake.
WOOD DRILLING
For maximum performance, use high speed steel bits for
wood drilling.
 Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from
slipping off the starting point. Increase the speed as the
drill bit bites into the material.
 When drilling through holes, place a block of wood behind
the workpiece to prevent ragged or splintered edges on
the back side of the hole.
METAL DRILLING
For maximum performance, use high speed steel bits for
metal or steel drilling.
 Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from
slipping off the starting point.
 Maintain a speed and pressure which allows cutting
without overheating the bit. Applying too much pressure
will:
• Overheat the drill;
• Wear the bearings;
• Bend or burn bits; and
• Produce off-center or irregular-shaped holes.
 When drilling large holes in metal, start with a small bit,
then finish with a larger bit. Also, lubricate the bit with oil
to improve drilling action and increase bit life.
RatcHet OpeRatION
INSTALLINg AND REMOVINg SOCkETS
See Figure 8, page 17.
Always select the correct size socket for nuts and bolts.
Using the wrong size socket may damage the nut or bolt
and cause the fastening torque to be inaccurate or incon-
sistent.
 Remove the battery pack from the tool.
Push a 3/8 in. socket onto the drive shank until the detent
pin locks it into place.
NOTE: If a 1/2 in. socket is needed, first install the 3/8 in.
to 1/2 in. socket adaptor.
 To remove the socket, pull it away from the drive shank.
OPERATINg THE RATCHET
See Figure 9, page 17.
Proper fastening torque is determined by the kind of bolt,
the size of the bolt, or the material of the workpiece. This
tool is designed only to speed the installation and removal
process and is not intended to replace a torque wrench. For
applications where proper torque is important, always use a
torque wrench to verify that proper torque is achieved.
NOTE: Do not use this tool to install lug nuts on wheels.
 Install the desired socket.
 Adjust the dial on the back of the ratchet head to choose
the desired rotation direction of the socket.
NOTE: The direction of rotation selector below the switch
trigger has no affect on the rotation direction of the ratchet
head.
 Hold the tool in front of the workpiece with the socket
over the nut or bolt.
 Depress the switch trigger and fasten or loosen as de-
sired.
NOTE: After fastening, always check the torque with a
torque wrench.
CAUTION
Do not turn the tool off and attempt to use the tool
manually to gain extra torque on the nut or bolt
being tightened. Doing so could cause damage to
the fastener and/or the tool.
Impact DRIveR OpeRatION
INSTALLINg bITS
See Figure 10, page 17.
 Remove the battery pack from the tool.
 Pull the coupler away from the impact driver head (1).
 Insert driver bit to be used into the coupler (2).
 Release the coupler (3).
 Pull on the bit to make sure it is secured in the coupler.
There may be some play in the installed bit; this is nor-
mal.
NOTE: Use only impact quality bits with a locking groove.
WARNINg:
Make sure the bit is secured in the coupler before
using the impact driver. Failure to do so could
cause serious personal injury.
REMOVINg bITS
See Figure 10, page 17.
 Remove the battery pack from the tool.
 Pull the coupler away from the impact driver head.
 Remove driver bit from the coupler.
CAUTION:
The impact driver is not designed to be used as
a drill.
