4 Use
4.1 Prerequisites
The visor must be selected and approved for the intended use
(see Chapter 3.3 on Page 11).
4.2 Preparation for use

When earmuffs are used, it might be necessary to use
a H3 size helmet and to make the following
adjustments.
In order to ensure that the fire helmet fits properly, the following
positions always need to be adjusted:
Helmet height (see Chapter 4.2.1 on Page 13)

Harness (see Chapter 4.2.2 on Page 13)

Support ring (see Chapter 4.2.3 on Page 13)


Risk of injury.
The protective effect of the fire helmet can only be
ensured if the fire helmet fits properly, if helmet size,
harness and support ring are correctly adjusted and if
the chin strap is closed. Only wear completely
assembled fire helmets. All add-on pieces must be
correctly mounted to the fire helmet.
The following preparations are optional preparations and are,
thus, described in the technical manual:
Mounting the visor

Mounting the neck guard

Mounting the lamp holder

Please also note the separate assembly instructions for wire
frame visors.
4.2.1 Adjusting the helmet height
Loosen or tighten the four hook-and-loop fasteners on the

comfort net.
CAUTION
!
The comfort net is part of the helmet's overall
cushioning system.
To ensure the helmet's protective function, adjust the
comfort net so it is optimally tensioned and there is a
gap between the net and the cushioning element in the
helmet shell.
4.2.2 Adjusting the harness

If a full face mask is used in combination with the fire
helmet, the full face mask must be donned prior to
adjusting the harness and the support ring.
1. Don the fire helmet, then close the chin strap.

2. Open the adjusting clamps at the neck strap and adjust
both neck straps so that they fit tightly under your ears and
around the back of your head. Close the adjusting clamps.
The helmet needs to sit straight on your head.
3. Open the hook-and-loop fastener and adjust the length of
the chin strap until the chin strap firmly fits to the chin.
4.2.3 Adjusting the support ring to the head size

1. Don the fire helmet, then close the chin strap.
2. Turn the adjusting wheel while pressing it towards the
wheel centre until the support ring has a snug fit on your
head.

During use

The helmet does not contain any materials that are
known to cause allergic reactions. However, in isolated
cases this might be the case anyway.
The visor might transfer impacts to spectacles and
damage the spectacles.
Full protection is only achieved when the face
protector is locked into the lowest position.
4.4

After use

Check usability as follows:
Check helmet shell, internal helmet components, chin strap

and accessories. Replace defective parts.
Check visor. In case of visible damage, or impaired vision

(e.g. by scratches, discolouring), the visor should be
replaced.
Check the paint coating of the fire helmet for damage.

The special self-extinguishing coating is the most important
factor for the thermal performance of the helmet. Damaged
coating might shorten the usage period. Small surface
scratches or damages to the paint work do not reduce the
protective effect. They can be repaired with repair paint.
Fire helmets that are out of use, or cannot be repaired any
more must be destroyed for safety reasons.
Trained personnel or Dräger can check and decide if a
damaged fire helmet is still suitable for use or can be repaired.
CAUTION
!
The protective effect is reduced after impact!
If the fire helmet absorbs the energy of an impact, it
can get damaged or destroyed.
Even if the damage is not visible at first, the fire helmet
must be replaced after a heavy bump or impact.
Do not use damaged or impact-stressed fire helmets.
This also applies if no external damage is visible.
