PRIOR TO INITIAL OPERATION
▪ Make sure the power supply voltage corre-
sponds to the value indicated on the name
plate with technical data of the tool.
▪ Always check the position of ON/OFF switch.
The power tool must be connected to the
power supply socket only when this switch
is in OFF position. If the plug is connected to
a receptacle while the power switch is in the
ON position, the power tool will start operating
immediately, which could cause a serious ac-
cident.
▪ Make sure that the cord and the plug are in
order. If the replacement of the supply cord is
necessary, this has to be done by the manu-
facturer or his agent in order to avoid a safety
hazard.
WARNING: Always switch off and
unplug the power tool prior to any adjustment,
servicing or maintenance.
▪ In case the work area is remote from the pow-
er source, use as short as practicable exten-
sion cord with proper cross-section.
▪ Check that the auxiliary handle is properly
mounted and reliably tightened.
WARNING: Prior to operation always
check the direction of rotation. Shift the
reversing switch only when the spindle has
come to a complete stop. Reversing prior to
final spindle halt may damage the power tool.
SWITCHING ON - SWITCHING Off
Brief activation
▪ Switching on: Press ON/OFF switch 11.
(Fig. 1)
▪ Switching off: Release ON/OFF switch 11.
Continuous operation
▪ Switching on: Press ON/OFF switch 11 and in
pressed position lock it by button 12. (Fig. 2)
▪ Switching off: Press ON/OFF switch 11 once
and release it immediately.
INSERTING AND fASTENING DRILL
BITS
for three-jaw chuck drills: (fig. 3)
Through turning the collar of the chuck 2 clock-
wise or counter-clockwise the jaws are posi-
tioned so the drill bit shank can be inserted in-
side the choke. By turning the collar of chuck 2
clockwise the jaws tighten the drill bit shank. Fix
Original instructions
the drill bit finally in the chuck by means of the
special chuck key, tightening equally in all three
bores.
for keyless-chuck drills: (fig. 4)
Grip rear collar of keyless chuck and rotate front
collar until chuck is opened sufficiently for the
tool to be inserted. Grip rear collar and manually
rotate front collar until tight. An audible "click" in-
dicates that the chuck has automatically locked.
WARNING: Do not use drill bits with
diameters exceeding those specified on
the name plate; otherwise the drill will be
overloaded.
REMOVING THE CHUCK
for three-jaw chuck drills:
Open the jaws of chuck 2 completely, and by
means a screwdriver unwind the left-treaded se-
curing screw 1 (Fig. 5a). Fix the drill spindle with
an open end spanner. Put the chuck key in one
of the three bores and rotate the chuck counter-
clockwise, using the chuck key as a lever, to un-
screw chuck 2 from the drill spindle (Fig. 5b).
for keyless-chuck drills:
Grip the rear collar of keyless chuck 2 and ro-
tate its front collar until the chuck is opened (Fig.
6a). By means of a screwdriver unwind the left-
treaded securing screw 1 (Fig. 6b). Insert an Al-
len key or a screwdriver bit into the chuck and
clamp its free end in appropriate way. Position
a spanner on the drill journal 3 and rotate it in
counter-clockwise direction (Fig. 6c).
TWO-SPEED SELECTOR SWITCH
Rotate switch 13 to 180° clockwise or counter-
clockwise, in order to select one or the other
speed range (Fig. 7).
STEPLESS ELECTRONIC RPM CON-
TROL (BUR2 160E)
Light pressure on ON/OFF switch 11 results
in low rotation speed, further pressing the
switch results in smooth increase of the rpm to
maximum upon reaching the extreme position.
