Connecting the CPU backup battery
FX3U-32BL
To use the battery in the R00CPU, R01CPU, or R02CPU, connect the battery, fol-
lowing the procedure below.
a Open the upper front cover of the
CPU module.
b Connect the lead connectors to
the battery connector (1) in the
2
right orientation. Insert the bat-
1
tery in the battery compartment
(2).
c Close the upper front cover.
P Battery error detection setting in the engineering tool
The following setting is required to use the battery in the R00CPU, R01CPU,
or R02CPU: [CPU Parameter]  [RAS Setting]  [Error Detection Setting] 
[Battery Error]
Set the parameter to "Detect". (The default setting is "Not Detected".)
Q6BAT
To prevent possible discharging or short circuit during transport and storage,
the battery connector of the Q6BAT is not plugged in when the product leaves
the factory.
a Open the battery cover located on
the bottom of the CPU module.
b Check that the Q6BAT (1) is cor-
rectly installed.
c Check the direction and securely
insert the connector plug of the
Q6BAT (2) to the jack (3) of the
CPU module.

DANGER
P Always switch off the power supply to the PLC and any other external
power supplies before performing any installation and wiring work.
P Replace the terminal covers on the modules before switching the
power on again.
P If an output module is defective it may not be possible to switch an out-
put correctly. Always install monitoring facilities to check for this in
systems where failure to switch outputs could be dangerous.
P Power failures and errors in the PLC can result in undefined conditions.
You should thus always install external safety facilities (e.g. Emer-
gency Off circuits, contactor interlocks, limit switches etc.) to prevent
potentially dangerous conditions and damage under all possible cir-
cumstances.
Please observe the following instructions to prevent interference from power
supplies and other sources:
P DC power cables should not be routed in the direct vicinity of AC power
cables.
P High-voltage cables should be routed separately from control and data
cables. Allow at least 100 mm of space between these cable types.
P Input and output cables can be extended to a maximum length of 100 m.
However, it is better not to exceed 20 m if you want to reliably prevent pos-
sible interference. Remember to make allowances for the voltage drop in
the cables.
P Use shielded cables for transporting analogue signals.
P Connect the cables to the terminals in such a way that no excessive
mechanical stresses will be placed on the terminal blocks.
Grounding
P The ground resistance should not exceed a maximum of 100 .
P The ground connector should be as near as possible to the PLC and the
grounding cables should also be as short as possible.
P If possible, ground the PLC separately from other equipment. If it is not pos-
sible to assign a separate ground connection, make sure that the common
ground is connected as shown in the middle illustration below.

P The grounding cable should have a cross-sectional area of at least 2 mm².
P If errors connected with the grounding occur during operation, disconnect
the LG and FG ground terminals of the main base unit.

Power supply connection

The power supply of the PLC should be separate from the power supplies for
the inputs and outputs and the other equipment in the system.
If there are high levels of interference, use an isolating transformer.
Power
To minimize line voltage losses use cables with the maximum possible con-
ductor cross-sectional area (max. 2 mm²) for the power supply lines Install
surge voltage protectors to protect the system against power surges (e.g.
lightning strikes).

WARNING
P The ground lines of the surge protector E1 and the controller E2 must
be kept separate.
P Take care to select a surge protector that will not be triggered by the
permitted voltage fluctuations.
The diagram below shows an example of the connection of a main base unit
and an extension base unit, using power supply units with AC mains inputs
(R61P).

Description
Error output (max. 24 V, 0.5 A)
This switching contact is closed in normal operation and opens
when an error is registered.
1
The error output can only be used when the power supply unit is
installed on a main base unit.

E
P Use cables with the largest possible cross-sectional area (max. 2 mm²)
for connecting the 110/230 V AC and 24 V DC power lines and twist the
lines all the way up to the connection terminals. Use solderless termi-
nal lugs with insulators to prevent possible short circuits caused by
loose screws.
P If the LG and FG terminals are connected they must be grounded. Both
these terminals may only be connected to the ground. If the LG and FG
terminals are connected without being grounded the PLC can respond
very sensitively to errors. Since the LG terminal is not isolated there is
also a possible shock hazard if conductive components or surfaces are
touched when it is connected.
