medi Ankle
sport brace
Intended purpose
This medi Ankle sport brace is an ankle
brace with stabilising shells on both
sides and a strap system. The product is
exclusively to be used for the orthotic
fitting of the ankle joint and only on
unbroken skin or if any wounds have
been properly covered.
Indications
• Chronic ligament instability in the
upper and lower ankle
• After sprains (e.g. supination injuries)
• As a preventative measure after
supination injuries, particularly
for sports
• Inflammation of the ankle joint
(acute or chronic, post-traumatic
or post-operative)
• Mild injury to the syndesmotic
ligaments
Side effects / contraindications
Side effects on the overall body are
currently unknown. However, if aids such
as braces are applied too tightly, local
pressure effects or narrowing of the
blood vessels or nerves may occur in
some cases. For this reason, you should
consult your physician prior to use under
the following conditions.
• Condition or injury of the skin in the
area of application, particularly with
infectious indications (excessive heat,
swelling or reddening)
• Diseases or injuries of the skin in the
area of application, especially in case
of signs of inflammation (excessive
heat, swelling or redness)
• Sensory and circulatory disorders of
the legs and feet (e.g. as a result of
diabetes)
• Lymph drainage problems, as well as
indistinct swelling of soft tissues
outside of the area of application
Combination with other products, e.g.
compression stockings, should be
discussed in advance with the attending
physician.
Mode of action
The brace supports the ankle via the
interplay of the fastening, the integrated
stabilisation shells on both sides and the
removable fastening system. The strap
system and the fastening support the
body's own stabilising mechanisms and
offer additional support, in a similar
manner to athletic tape. The stabilisa-
tion shells at the sides can be removed
and the brace is thus adaptable to every
individual. When moving the shells, note
that the space between them must
surround the ankle in order to provide
an optimal level of comfort during wear.
The medi Ankle sport brace is therefore
also suitable for prophylactic prevention
of sprains. This is particularly valid for
sports, when the muscles become
fatigued. The brace has the greatest
impact when it is used in conjunction
with physical activity. In principle, this
product can be worn for the whole day.
However, the wearer should wear the
brace as they deem necessary. The brace
should be removed for long sedentary
periods (i.e. if you are sitting down for a
long time, driving or sleeping). If you
experience excessive pain or your
condition worsens whilst wearing the
brace, remove the product immediately
and contact your doctor or medical
supply store.
