RECORDING TO iPod
The iDEC allows you to record audio from external devices connected to the RECORD INPUT directly to a
docked iPod. This is accomplished through the built-in audio recorder of your iPod, otherwise known as
Voice Memo. Please note that recording requires the iDEC to be in Direct Mode.
First, refer to the iPod compatibility chart in the "Front Panel Overview" section of this manual to see if your
iPod supports audio recording.
Note: The signal from the RECORD INPUT is not being routed to the AUDIO OUTPUT.

1.
Place your iPod into the dock, making sure that it fits snuggly over the connector. Note that depending
on your iPod model, you may need to use the Universal Dock Adapter included with your iPod.

Your iPod will automatically enter Voice Memo recording mode. You will see a counter (00:00:00)
displayed on the screen, with the RECORD option highlighted below.

Note: With certain iPod models, it may not be possible to enter Voice Memo Mode if your iPod is
currently in a music/video playback screen. If you experience difficulties accessing Voice Memo Mode,
press Menu to exit to the Main Menu and try again.

Before you proceed, we highly recommend that you check your input level first. To do this, play a loud
portion of the music you wish to record and watch the POWER button LED. If the LED turns yellow,
this means that the input signal level is too "hot" and that you should turn down the volume of your input
source.

Press ENTER when you are ready to begin recording. If you wish to cancel, select CANCEL and press
ENTER.

While recording, PAUSE will be highlighted on the screen of your iPod.

When you have finished recording, select STOP AND SAVE and press ENTER. You can locate the
recording by navigating to Extras

Use the touchwheel to navigate to VOICE MEMOS and press ENTER.

(Optional) You can select the quality of the recording by selecting QUALITY and pressing ENTER to
toggle between the available quality settings. We recommend using the "HIGH" setting, although you
may sometimes wish to use the "LOW" setting if you are running out of storage on your iPod.

You will see the START RECORDING option highlighted. You are ready to begin recording. Before
you proceed, we highly recommend that you check your input level first. To do this, play a loud portion
of the music you wish to record and watch the POWER button LED. If the LED turns yellow, this
means that the input signal level is too "hot" and that you should turn down the volume of your input
source.

Press ENTER to begin recording.

While recording, press MENU to temporarily pause the recording. To resume, select RESUME
and press ENTER.
6.
When you have finished recording, press MENU. Select STOP AND SAVE and press ENTER. You
can locate the recording by navigating to Voice Memos. Your recordings will be identified by the date
and time that the recording was completed.
IMPORTANT: Renaming your recordings directly from your iPod is not recommended. If you change the
filename, your iPod may no longer be able to access the file. If you would like to rename the recording, you
should transfer the file to your computer, rename it and import it back into your iTunes library as an AAC or
MP3 file.
