Installing the sensor

NOTICE

The MEC Key sensor adapter is required to install the
DrägerSensor MEC sensor.
1. Unscrew bayonet ring (1)
from the transmitter, remove
blank.
2. Open the front cover (2)
of the
service
port
turning it counterclockwise
with a hexagonal wrench
(approx. 60°).
CAUTION
!
Use only an Allen key (5 mm) without a ball head.
3. Mount the sensor in the sensor adapter (see MEC Key
assembly instructions).
4. The back of the sensor adapter has a coded plug. Insert the
sensor adapter into the sensor opening with the plug code
to the back and the Dräger logo pointing forward.
Before pressing the plug into the socket, make sure that
the plug and socket match. An incorrect connection may
damage the sensor.
5. Lock sensor adapter in the transmitter with bayonet ring.
If the factory calibration of the sensor is to be used:

switches and potentiometer

calibration
are
accessible.
7. Jumper J1 (3) must be
placed over the two left pins
or it must be removed.
If the transmitter is to be
specifically
calibrated
calibration gas:
1. Open the front cover of the service port by turning it
counterclockwise (approx. 60°). The maintenance switches
and potentiometers for calibration are accessible.
2. Jumper J1 (4) must be placed over the two right pins.

Start the device

Switch on the power.
The transmitter initiates the warm-up phase. The warm-up
phase can be recognized by flashing lights in the display.
The warm-up phase may last from 5 minutes to 12 hours
depending on the installed sensor. Follow the instructions in
the sensor data sheet. The warm-up phase may take longer in
extremely high or low temperatures. The warm-up phase is
complete when the display has stopped flashing.
After the sensor warm-up phase is complete:
For transmitters that are set for transmitter-specific calibration
with calibration gas
Calibrate the sensor, page 12.
For transmitters that are set to use the factory-set calibration
of the sensor
The transmitter is ready for operation.
Check signal transmission to the central controller and test

triggering of alarms.
Analog signal
During normal operation a current of 4 to 20 mA flows through
the transmitter in proportion to the gas concentration.
Polytron 2000 uses different current values to display the
operating status of the transmitter:
