Operation Instructions/Warning
Lever hoists are intended to manually raise or lower loads, using the operating lever.
Handle, store and transport the lever hoist carefully to prevent damage.
Only suitably trained and qualifi ed personal should operate, inspect or maintain the chain hoist.
Inspect the lever hoist for damage and/or wear before each use.
Do not use if damage, deformity or excessive wear is found to any part of the chain hoist.
Ensure that the end stop is in place and secure.
Ensure that the suspension point and associated equipment is of adequate strength to support the intended loadings.
Do not overload or shock load. Do not use an extension to the lever. Do not over-extend the load chain.
Ensure the lever hoist is correctly and safely rigged before each use.
Hooks must be correctly situated and aligned with the suspension point & load. Do not wedge the hook into poistion.
Do not use the load chain as a sling. Do not over extend the load chain or allow it to be used in a twisted condition.
The load must always be centred between the top and bottom hooks.
Do not use more than one lever hoist to lift or transport a load, unless a formal risk assessment has been undertaken by a competent
person.
Chain hoists should not be used to lift or lower people, or to lift loads over people.
Do not use in highly corrosive or explosive environments.
Ambient operating temperatures -10 °C to +50°C.
Ensure that the height of lift is suffi cient for the lifting operation being undertaken.
Ensure that the brake is functioning correctly during prolonged raising or lowering operations.
Halt the operation to allow the brake to cool if necessary.
Stand clear of the load when operating the lever hoist.
Maintenance
1.
Inspection and maintenance must only be carried out by suitably trained and qualifi ed personnel.
2.
After each use, clean off any dirt or other contaminants. Dry off, lubricate load chain and swivel hook if required and store carefully.
3.
Following repair, the chain hoist must be inspected and tested.
4.
Inspect & maintain more frequently when the chain hoist is used outdoors and/or in adverse operating conditions.
5.
When installing the castle nut (2) turn the handwheel (1) clockwise, thus pressing the ratchet disc (5), friction disc (6) on the brake
seat (7). Install the castle nut after turning. See Figure 1.
Pre-use Inspection
1.
The lever hoist must be inspected before each use to detect any damage or faults.
2.
Listen for any unusual sounds as these may indicate damage or other faults.
3.
Braking mechanism should be subjected to regular function tests. Operate the chain hoist with and without a load
stopping at various positions to ensure that the load is being held correctly. If in any doubt, do not use the hoist and have it
inspected by a competent person.
Load Chain & Hooks
a) Load chain
The load chain and hooks are hard wearing, but wear is unavoidable. Certain operating conditions will cause wear and loss of strength.
Load chain worn beyond the permissable limits shown in Table 1 must be replaced at once.
Do not attempt to repair chain or hooks. Inspect the chain for mechanical damage, e.g. gouges, abrasion and stretch
b) Hooks
The hook opening will elongate or deform if subject to overload, side or point loading. Replace immediately.
Permissable limits of maximum hook opening are given in Table 2.
Construction & Operation
The lever hoist is equipped with a "Free Brake" system, which permits quick positioning of the bottom hook when not under load.
The main steps are as follow: See Figure 1.
Quick Reverse Operation
Set the selector lever (3) to the "N" (Neutral) position. Turn the handwheel (1) counter-clockwise. When it stops, the brake is disengaged,
thus allowing the load chain to be easily pulled by hand. The bottom hook may then be adjusted to any suitable position. See Figure 1.
Loading Operation
Set the selector lever to the "UP" position. Turn the handwheel clockwise. When it stops, the load chain is tightened and the brake en-
gaged, thus allowing the lever handle (4) to be operated by hand and the load can then be lifted. Set the selector lever to the "DOWN"
position and move the lever handle up and down, to allow the load to be lowered. See Figure 1.
