• Following injury to the patellar tendon
• Retropatellar arthrosis
• Patellar maltracking
• Plica syndrome
Side-Effects / Contraindications
No general side effects are known. However, if supports (or similar aids)
are too tight, local pressure effects or constriction of blood vessels or
nerves may occur in individuals. If you have any of the following
complaints please conult your doctor before using the brace:
• Diseases or injuries of the skin in the area of use, especially with
inflammatory symptoms (excessive warming, swelling or reddening).
• Sensitivity and perfusion disorders of the legs or feet (e.g. in the case
of diabetes).
• Lymph outflow disorders, as well as undiagnosed swellings of soft
tissues, apart from the area of use.
Any combination with other products (e.g. compression stockings)
must be discussed in advance with the responsible doctor.
Mode of Action / Comment on Wear
The silicone pads in the Genumedi PSS relieve the pressure on the knee-
cap and, in conjunction with the knitted fabric's compression, produce
a massaging effect. This effect encourages circulation through the joint
and therefore helps reduce swelling and effusions and alleviate
irritation and pain. It simultaneously helps improve muscular control
and the body's own stabilisation of the knee joint. The pressure applied
by the additional belt strap and the pad under it reduces tension on the
patellar tendon thus creating relief for the tendon insertions and
alleviating pain.
Supports are most beneficial during physical activity. The support can
in principle be worn throughout the day. This must depend on how
comfortable the wearer is. Moreover, the knee may not be bent by
more than 70° when sitting. The support should be removed for long
breaks (e.g. long periods sitting, long drives or sleeping).
If you suffer excessive pain or discomfort during wear, please take off
the product immediately and contact your doctor or specialised shop.
The support is suitable for use in water. After use, please rinse
thoroughly.
Putting on / Taking off
• Open the two belt straps.
• Hold the support with the thumb on the inside at the top end of the
side stabilisation rods (Fig. 1).
• Pull the support over the knee in such a way that the two silicon pads
cover the centre of the kneecap without applying any pressure. Make
sure when positioning the support that the smaller pad (tendon pad)
is located below the kneecap over the patellar tendon. (Figs. 2 + 3).
• Now close the front belt strap with your leg slightly bent. Check when
doing so that this strap runs over the small pad (Fig. 4).
• Then close the rear belt strap (Fig. 5).
• The belt may be cut to the individually required length. To this end,
open the Velcro fasteners at the end of the belt and shorten it
accordingly. (Fig. 6).
