Strictly follow the Instructions for Use
Any use of the Dräger Pump X-am 1/2/5000 requires full under-
standing and strict observation of these instructions. The pump
may only be used for the purposes specified here.
Maintenance
Repairs to the pump may only be carried out by trained service
personnel. We recommend that a service contract be obtained
with Dräger and that all repairs also be carried out by Dräger.
Only authentic Dräger spare parts may be used for main-
tenance.
Accessories
Only the accessories specified in these Instructions for Use
may be used.
Use in areas subject to explosion hazards
Devices or components for use in explosion-hazard areas
which have been tested and approved according to national,
European or international Explosion Protection Regulations
may be used only under the conditions explicitly specified in the
approval and with consideration of the relevant legal regula-
tions. The equipment or components may not be modified in
any manner. The use of faulty or incomplete parts is forbidden.
The appropriate regulations must be observed at all times
when carrying out repairs on these devices or components.
Repairs to the device may only be carried out by trained service
personnel in accordance with the maintenance instructions of
Dräger.
Intended Use
The Dräger Pump X-am 1/2/5000 is an external pump for the
portable gas measuring devices Dräger X-am 1100, X-am
1700,
X-am 2000 and X-am 5000. It is ideally suited for short-term
pump operations as it is very easy to switch between pump and
diffusion mode.
It conveys air or non aggressive measured gases to inacces-
sible places up to 30 m, such as in tunnels, shafts or tank
farms.

Commissioning
Use the filter every time the Dräger Pump X-am 1/2/5000 is
started, otherwise the pump may be damaged.
Insert batteries or charged NiMH rechargeable batteries:
Unscrew the filter in a counterclockwise direction.
Loosen the two screws at the front and remove the cap.
Insert the batteries or charged rechargeable batteries into
the holders. Ensure correct polarity!
The battery LED briefly flashes red one time.
After <5 s, the battery LED briefly flashes green several
times.
Replace the cap and carefully hand-tighten the two screws.
Screw the filter in a clockwise rotation onto the device.
CAUTION
Do not replace the batteries / rechargeable batteries in hazar-
dous areas. Danger of explosion!
Batteries / rechargeable batteries are part of the Ex approval.
Only the following types may be used:
— Alkaline batteries – T4 – (not rechargeable!)
Energizer No. E91, Energizer No. EN91 (Industrial), Varta
Type 4106 (power one) or Varta Type 4006
— NiMH rechargeable batteries – T3 – (rechargeable)

Do not throw used batteries into fire or try to open them by

Dispose of the batteries in accordance with local regulations.

CAUTION
Switch on the gas measuring device and
insert into the device receptacle of the
pump.
Press the gas measuring device down-
wards causing it to slide forwards. The
device receptacle must click into positi-
on.
— The pump is automatically switched on
— The two LEDs light green shortly and
then red, accompanied by a signal tone.
— The flow LED flashes yellow, accompa-
nied by a signal tone.
Block the intake port for approx. 2 se-
conds.
— The flow LED flashes red, accompanied
by a continuous signal tone.
Unblock the intake port again.
— The flow LED lights green, accompanied
by an acknowledgment tone.
— The flow LED flashes red, accompanied
by a continuous tone.
— The pump is automatically switched off.
