the type of leaves used. Take the carafe from
the hot-plate and carefully lift out the tea
fi lter. Th e tea fi lter may be put onto the closed
glass carafe to drain off .
Switching off the coff ee maker:
Th e tea may be kept warm inside the carafe by
leaving it standing on the hot-plate. Th e plate
stays warm until the appliance is switched
off completely (with both switches in their
Off -position). Always switch off aft er use and
remove the plug from the wall socket.
Descaling
Depending on the water quality (lime
content) in your area as well as the
frequency of use, all thermal household
appliances using hot water need descaling
(i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular
basis to ensure proper functioning.
A lengthening of the brewing time and
increased noise during brewing indicate
that descaling of the coff ee maker has
become necessary.
An excessive build-up of lime deposits
is very diffi cult to remove, even when
strong descaling agents are used. It may
also cause the brewing system to leak. We
therefore strongly recommend descaling
the appliance aft er each thirty to forty
brewing cycles. For descaling, a vinegar
solution may be used.
We recommend using an environmentally
friendly, commercially available descaling
agent (eg citric-acid-based) for coff ee
makers. Prepare around 1 litre of descaling
solution following the manufacturer's
instructions. You can also use 2 – 3
tablespoons of vinegar in one litre of cold
water.
Pour the descaling solution into the
water container, insert a paper fi lter into
the fi lter holder but without adding any
ground coff ee as described in section
Making coff ee, and let the appliance run
through one fi ltration cycle. Repeat the
procedure if necessary. During descaling,
ensure suffi cient ventilation and do not
inhale any vinegar vapours.
To clean the appliance aft er descaling, let
it run through 2-3 fi ltration cycles using
clean water only.
Do not pour descalers down enamel
sinks.
General care and cleaning
Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is
disconnected from the power supply and
has completely cooled down.
To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not
clean the appliance with water and do not
immerse it in water.
Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning
solutions.
Th e housing may be wiped with a
slightly damp lint-free cloth and a mild
household detergent. Wipe thoroughly
dry aft erwards.
Dispose of the coff ee grounds and rinse
the fi lter. As a natural substance, the coff ee
grounds may be composted.
Th e glass carafe, lid, fi lter holder and tea
fi lter may be cleaned in soapy water or in
a dish-washer.
Power-cord storage compartment
Th e
integrated
compartment is used for storing the power
cord. Th e recess at the bottom facilitates
limiting the length of the power cord.

appliances in domestic garbage;
this should only be done through
public collection points.
