Introduction
The VETUS Inverter/Battery Charger is a combination of a
voltage inverter and a fully automatic battery charger.
The inverter converts the 12 Volts resp. 24 Volt DC supplied by
the battery into 220 Volts 50 Hz or 240 Volts 60 Hz alternating
current.
Moreover, the inverter/battery charger can switch automatically
to the available dockside voltage (220/240 Volts 50/60 Hz).
The control panel provides information about all the functions,
faults, battery voltage and charging current.
The Inverter
The inverter converts 12 Volt resp. 24 Volt direct current into a
trapezium-wave shaped alternating current of 220 Volt 50 Hz (or
240 Volt, 60 Hz).

It is possible to overload the inverter for a short period of time,
see page 16. However, if the inverter is overloaded too much, it
will switch itself off for a short period of time.
Starting of equipment is also possible.
Most household equipment, such as a TV, will operate on tra-
pezium-wave alternating current without interference. However,
it is possible that some equipment will only work proper on a
pure sinus wave shaped alternating current. If this is the case, a
mains filter may solve the problem. Consult your supplier for fur-
ther information.
The Battery Charger
The fully automatic battery charger is specially designed for
quick and efficient charging of many types of lead/acid batter-
ies (both open and sealed batteries, starter, semi- traction and
traction batteries, fluid or gel filled).

As the charge current is regulated automatically in accordance
with an ideal charge characteristic, the charger may be con-
nected continuously, even during winter storage.
In contrast to the 12 Volt resp. 24 Volt DC from the batteries, the 220/240 Volt AC from the inverter is potentially lethal on con-
tact. Treat the socket on the inverter in the same way as you would any mains socket.

Switching to Dockside Connection
When the inverter is connected to mains voltage 220 Volt, 50 Hz
(240 V / 60 Hz) using the connector supplied, it switches over
automatically. The boat circuit, connected to the inverter sock-
et, is now connected to the dockside mains.
When the dockside supply is disconnected the inverter switch-
es on again automatically and the 220 V / 50 Hz (240 V / 60 Hz)
supply continues, converted from the 12 V resp. 24 V batteries.
When the dockside supply is reconnected then the inverter
switches off, the battery charger switches on and the dockside
supply returns to the boat circuit.
