Service Air Cleaner
Clean or replace the air cleaner elements as recommended in
the Maintenance Chart or more often if operating under dirty
or dusty conditions. Your engine will not run properly and may
be damaged if you run it with a dirty air cleaner.
To service the air cleaner, follow these steps:
1. Remove fastener (A, Figure 5) and cover (B).

2. Remove fastener (C) and filter assembly (D).
3. If equipped, remove pre-cleaner (G) from the filter. To
loosen debris, gently tap filter on a hard surface. If filter
is excessively dirty, replace with new filter.
NOTICE DO NOT use pressurized air or solvents to clean
the foam air cleaner.
• Pressurized air can damage the foam air cleaner and
solvents will dissolve the foam air cleaner.
The air cleaner system uses a pleated filter with an
optional pre-cleaner. The pre-cleaner can be washed
and reused.
4. Wash pre-cleaner in liquid detergent and water. Then
allow it to thoroughly air dry. Do not oil the pre-cleaner.
5. Assemble dry pre-cleaner to filter.
6. Install filter and pre-cleaner into base (F) and onto stud
(E). Make sure filter fits securely into base. Secure filter
with fastener (C).
7. Install cover (B) and secure with fastener (A). Make sure
fastener is finger tight.

Change the spark plug as recommended in the Maintenance
Chart. This will help your engine to start easier and run better.

Inspect Muffler and Spark Arrester
Inspect the muffler for cracks, corrosion, or other damage.
Remove the spark arrester, if equipped, and inspect
for damage or carbon blockage. If replacement parts
are required, make sure to use only original equipment
replacement parts.
