(strap #1), then the upper back thigh
strap (#2). Keep your knee in a flexed
position and push both joints towards
the back of the leg.
• Now fasten the lower back thigh strap
(#3). Make sure that you do not have
the hinge joints positioned in front of
the midline of the leg.
• Now fasten the upper front calf strap
(#4). Then the upper back calf strap
(#5), and finally the front thigh strap
(#6).
• Bend your knee slightly a few times
and refasten the straps again in the
order described above to prevent the
brace slipping.
Adjusting Varus / Valgus load
Varus / valgus relief should be
undertaken by the orthotist or by the
patient - only if the patient has been
given detailed instructions from a
qualified person.
First sit down. Use the Allen key to set
the varus / valgus adjustment hinges to
the neutral position. The neutral
position is reached when the cushion (at
the knee joint of the brace) lies flat
against the knee.
Now stand up. Set the loading to one
quarter of a turn (on both adjustment
screws). This setting is a good starting
point when wearing the brace for the
first time. You can also use the various
hinge cushions supplied to adjust the
support to the width of your knee if
necessary.
Make sure that the brace is fitted to your
knee properly. In conservative therapy
(without operation) you should not wear
the orthosis longer than 2 hours per day.
Then increase the wearing time
gradually so that the brace remains
comfortable. Above all you should wear
the brace for activities that would
normally cause you knee joint pain. In
postoperative therapy the orthosis must
always be worn when putting weight on
the leg. Please ask the doctor who is
treating you for his instructions.
Caution: "Extreme" settings have no
therapeutic value, they only cause
additional discomfort.
