WATER LEAK ALERT
2. Connect the leak detector wires as shown in Fig. 3.

a. Connect the white wire labeled "to thermopile" to
the white thermopile wire.
b. Connect the red wire labeled "to thermopile" to
the red thermopile wire.
c. Connect the red and white wire labeled "to con-
troller" to the water heater controller.
d. Connect the two red wires labeled "to leak detec-
tor" to the leak detector
3. Arrange the leak sensing cable so it is in position to
detect leaks. Be sure to circle the cable around the
base of the water heater.
NOTE: If the water heater has a drain pan installed,
place the cable inside the drain pan.
4. Use double-stick tape to attach the leak detector to
the water heater tank.
5. Restart the water heater following the instructions in
the water heater operators manual.
To Expand Leak Detection
Coverage
Additional cable sensors (sold separately; part number
CHWES41013/U) can be connected to extend the cable
and increase water sensing area.
The cable can be extended up to 240 ft. with one alarm.
Battery Replacement
The leak detector will chirp when the battery is getting low.
To change the battery simply follow step 1 of "Preparation"
on page 1. We recommend you test the batteries every 6
months and replace as needed.
Security Notice
Place device in a location where no damage or tampering
to device or wires will occur.

In Case of an Alert
Mute the detector by removing the batteries or cable
sensor from the detector. After you've addressed the cause
of the alert, wipe dry the detector and cable sensor and put
them back in place. Replace batteries if they were
removed.
How can I connect to a Honeywell
Prestige EIM module?
1. Connect the two red wires labeled "to leak detector"
to the leak detector.
2. Remove the connectors from the side of the two
wires labeled "To Control Red" and "To Control
White." Connect the bare wires to the EIM.
NOTE: For longer wire runs use 18 AWG stranded,
insulated wire.
3. Discard other wire labeled "to thermopile."
4. Select "normally closed" option on the Honeywell
Prestige setup screen and follow setup instructions
provided with the Honeywell Prestige Thermostat.
How do I Make Sure the Leak
Detector is Working?
Press and hold the test button on the water leak detector.
It can take a few seconds but a loud alarm will sound. If
there is no alarm or the alarm is not loud, replace the
batteries.
Why is the Water Cold?
If you have a Honeywell self-powered gas valve connected
to the leak alert system, then it will turn the main gas
burner off. This prevents the water from being heated
when the water heater is leaking.
To Restore Hot Water if the Leak
Detector is Connected to the Gas
Valve
1. If there is a leak, address the cause of the leak.
2. Contact a plumber and let them know you have a
leak.
a. If there is no leak alarm but there is still no hot
water, the problem could be something other
than a water leak.
3. If the alarm is going off and there is no leak:
a. Refer to your water heater owner's manual for
additional instructions.
b. Turn the dial on the water heater controller to
OFF for three seconds.
c. Turn the dial to the PILOT location on the water
heater controller, then push down the dial while
pushing the piezo igniter.
