Removing the Cutting Blade

Use a suitable piece of wood (2) to

block the cutting blade (1).
Unscrew the blade mounting
N
screw (3) and remove the blade.
Check the blade mounting screw for
N
damage.
WARNING
Replace a damaged mounting screw.
Sharpening Instructions
STIHL recommends that you have the
blade resharpened by your dealer. An
incorrectly ground cutting blade (wrong
sharpening angle, out-of-balance) can
cause running problems – STIHL
recommends a STIHL servicing dealer.
Cool the cutting blade during
N
resharpening, e.g. with water.
Sharpen the cutting blade uniformly
N
to avoid out-of-balance and
vibrations.
Sharpen the cutting edges to an
N
angle of 30°.
Use fine emery paper to remove any
N
burrs from the cutting edges after
resharpening.

Clean mounting faces and

thread (1).

Fit the cutting blade (2) with the
N
upturned ends facing up – the
retaining lugs (3) must engage the
holes (4) in the blade.
Use a suitable piece of wood (5) to
N
block the blade.
Check the blade mounting screw (6)
N
for damage.
WARNING
Replace a damaged mounting screw.
Coat mounting screw with
N
Loctite
it and tighten it down to a torque of
9.5 ft - lbs (12 Nm).

WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury, the blade
mounting screw's specified tightening
torque must be maintained exactly, the
screw must be secured with Loctite and
be in perfect condition to guarantee the
security of the cutting blade.
