SHOE ADJUSTMENT FOR ANGLE CUTTING
The shoe plate can be angled to 45º on one side. To do this, first loosen the screw at the base
of the saw head until the shoe can freely move. The shoe should then be repositioned in the
forward slot and the screw retightened. To reset the shoe to a square cut, loosen the clamp
screw and move the shoe so that the clamp screw is against the rear of the slot. Retighten
clamp screw.
GENERAL CUTTING
Be sure material is firmly secured. Don't attempt to turn on the unit when blade is against
material to be cut. This could stall the motor. Place front of shoe on material to be cut and hold
jig saw shoe down firmly against the work surface while cutting. Don't force the tool; let the
blade cut at its own speed. Whenever possible, clamp or support work close to the line of cut;
when the cut is completed, shut off power and lay the tool aside before loosening the work.
METAL & PLASTIC CUTTING
In cutting thin gauge sheet metals, it is best to clamp wood or plywood to the bottom of the
metal sheet; this will insure a clean cut without the danger of vibration or tearing of metal. Use
a fine-tooth blade for ferrous metals (for those that have an iron content); and use a coarser
blade for nonferrous metals (those that do not have an iron content).
Cutting thin metal will take longer than cutting relatively thick wood so do not be tempted to
speed up the process by forcing the saw. Spread a thin film of cutting lubricant along the cut-
ting line, (any light weight oil). Use low speeds for cutting metals, plastics and composition
tile. When cutting laminated plastic, place the finished side down and use a fine tooth hollow
ground blade.
POCKET CUTTING
• Measure the surface to be cut and mark clearly with a pencil. Next tip the saw forward until
the front edge of the shoe sits firmly on the work surface.
• Switch the tool on and allow it to attain maximum speed.
• Grip the handle firmly and lower the back edge of tool until the blade cuts smoothly into
material. Always be sure blade reaches its complete depth before starting to cut.

WARNING: Always remove battery from tool before any of the following operations.
ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE BLADE
NOTE: The first time the blade bolt is removed from saw without a blade installed, it may
be necessary to place the blade wrench on the bolt head and tap it sharply in the counter
clockwise direction.
Assemble blade and clamp washers, as shown in Fig. 13. The blade wrench is stored on the
side of the circular saw head above the spindle lock button (Figure 14).To prevent blade rota-
tion while tightening the blade clamping screw, depress the spindle lock button as shown in
Fig. 15. Tighten the blade clamping screw securely.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

GUARD AGAINST KICKBACK
With battery removed, follow all assembly, adjustment and set up instructions.
Make sure lower guard operates. Select the proper blade for the material to be cut.
• Measure and mark work for cutting.
• Support and secure work properly (See Safety Rules and Instructions).
• Use appropriate and required safety equipment (See Safety Rules).
• Secure and maintain work area (See Safety Rules).
• With battery inserted, make sure switch turns saw on and off.
USING THE CIRCULAR SAW
The circular saw is equipped with a switch to prevent running in a reverse direction. To start
the saw, push in on the forward/reverse button from the blade side of the saw. Next, push in
on the blade release button shown in Figure 14. Squeeze the trigger and the tool will run. At
this time the button can be released. The tool will continue to run as long as the trigger is
depressed.
To turn the tool off, release the trigger switch. There is no provision for locking the tool on, and
the switch should never be locked on by any other means.
KERF PLATE
Align mark on kerf plate (Figure 16) with drawn pencil line and advance blade into cut.
AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC BRAKE
Your saw is equipped with an electric blade brake which stops the saw blade within 1-1/2 sec-
onds of trigger release. This is automatic and requires no adjustment.
Occasionally, under certain conditions, the brake will not function properly and won't stop the
saw in the 1-1/2 seconds as discussed above. If this condition occurs, turn the saw on and off
four or five times. If the problem still persists, have the tool serviced at a Black & Decker serv-
ice center or company authorized service facility.
POCKET CUTTING (SEE FIG. 17)
Pocket cutting is used to cut a hole in a piece of material without cutting from the side.
• Measure and mark work.
• Tilt saw forward and rest front of the shoe on material to be cut. Align so that cut will begin at
the back of the drawn rectangle.
• Using the retracting lever, retract blade guard to an upward position, with the blade just
clearing the material, start motor and gradually lower the saw into the material.
WARNING: As blade starts cutting the material, release the retracting lever immediately.
• Never tie the blade guard in a raised position.
• When the shoe rests flat on the material being cut, complete the cut in forward direction.
• Allow the blade to come to a complete stop before lifting saw from material.
• When starting each new cut, repeat the above steps.

BIT INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL
NOTES:
•ROUTER IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH RAISED PANEL BITS.
•ROUTER IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN METAL CUTTING APPLICATIONS.
•DO NOT USE ANY ROUTER BIT GREATER THAN 1-5/8" DIAMETER.
CAUTION: ROUTER BITS ARE SHARP, USE CARE WHEN HANDLING THEM.
INSTALLING BITS
The router is equipped with a spindle lock feature that makes changing bits easy.
Hold the spindle shaft by depressing the spindle lock button as shown in Figure 18 and use the
supplied wrench to loosen (counterclockwise) the collet nut. When installing router bits, be sure
they are inserted as far as possible and then pulled out about 1/16". Tighten collet nut firmly
clockwise (do not over-tighten).
NOTE: If the router base is set at its maximum depth, the collet nut cannot be tightened
properly. Always insure that if the router base is adjusted to its maximum depth it must
be backed off several rotations (counterclockwise) before tightening or loosening router
)
bits. See "Setting the Router Depth" below for router base adjustment.
CAUTION: NEVER TIGHTEN COLLET NUT WITHOUT A 1/4" SHANK SIZE BIT
INSERTED INTO COLLET. TO DO SO MAY BREAK OR DAMAGE COLLET.
REMOVING BITS
CAUTION: Router bits get hot during use. Allow sufficient time for bit to cool before
removing.
Hold the spindle shaft by depressing the spindle lock button and use the supplied wrench to
loosen (counterclockwise) the collet nut.

SETTING THE ROUTING DEPTH
1. Press in on the spindle lock button and rotate the router base as shown in Figure 19. Rotating
the base clockwise will increase the routing depth while rotating the base counterclockwise
will decrease the depth. Two complete revolutions of the base equals about 2 millimeters
