to a sump placed at a lower level. If the pump that returns the water from the sump to the aquarium should
stop, the sump could overflow and the aquarium, following the communicating vessels effect, will empty in
order to bring the tank at pump level.
Operating
•
Plug in the supply pump and wait for the water to overflow from the drainage
•
The drainage tube can be regulated as necessary and or adjusted with specific connectors.
•
Important: the normal drainage should never be obstructed!
•
The drainage can be lengthen both horizontally and vertically but not upwards
•
The top part of the drainage should always be at least partially out of water (fig 12)
•
Setting of water quantity and level should always be carried out with all connectors in place.
The following instructions on regulating water level and air flow are only indicative for the first set-up of
your new skimmer. It will then be up to the Fishkeeper to adjust the system to better fit specific needs (tank
size, stocking, quantity of treated water, type of skimate, etc)
Water and air regulations
Regulate the amount of water being circulated by adjusting the flow control on the pump (not included)
For a precise regulation of the exact water quantity measure with a graduated container placed under the
drainage. The pump flow regulation is not reliable.(see chart 1)
Once the water flow is regulated, set the drainage (fig 13) being careful that the water level inside the
column comes to approx 2cm from the base of the collection cup (fig 14).
Connect the foaming pump/s and open completely the air intake (fig 15).
The skimmer needs to run at least 3-7 days before it starts foaming properly and the setting becomes final.
After this initial period one can start regulating air intake and water level to suit personal needs (aquarium
size, stocking, etc)
Advaned use
Some experts advise to obtain a "wet, beer-like" foam. This can be obtained by adjusting and calibrating
the skimmer to personal need. Many different results can be achieved by regulating the amount of air, the
amount of water being treated and the level in the column.
Attention
•
The skimmer drainage must not be immersed (ideal positioning is at water surface level) (fig 12)
•
Best results are obtained when the water input pump is positioned in a tank where the water level is at
constant height.;
•
The skimmer needs to run at least 3-7 days before it starts foaming properly and the setting becomes final;
•
Some plastic/rubber tubes, even if not used directly on the skimmer but on other products, can release
substances that inhibit foaming. It is advisable to use only tubes sold expressly for aquatics or food and
beverage.
Maintenance
ATTENTION: before lifting a skimmer, if full, drain it by unscrewing and moving to a side the bottom con-
nector of the foaming pump. Should it be necessary to lift the skimmer full of water, place one hand under
the base and the other on the column. Never grab the skimmer by the top edge of the column when full of
water:
