For the correct functioning of the skimmer it is essential that maintenance is carried out regularly and
thoroughly on :
•
Collection cup should be checked and cleaned regularly. (fig.16)
•
Periodically the column should we washed to eliminate any trace of algae that inhibit foaming. Remember
to rinse well so there is no residue of detergent. Also calcium residues on the inside of the column can inhibit
foaming. To clear away any residue rinse well with Magi-Klean or diluted hydrochloric acid.
•
Regularly, or when the air flow diminishes, clean the air intake tube (that can be obstructed by calcium and/
or salt), the by-bass tube on the foaming pump and the air regulation (can be obstructed by dust). (fig 17
a-b)
•
Check the silencer/s and clean every two weeks.
•
Unscrew the drainage regulation (fig 18 a-b)
•
Extract the silencer (fig 19)
•
Clean from salt build up and residue
•
Assemble back together (fig 20 a-b)
•
Connect back to skimmer (fig 21)
•
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the foaming pump will guarantee better performance, durability
and less noise. Lime scale and residues can be found between the impeller and magnet and in the pump
chamber. These deposits can cause friction, noise, overheating, early wear and tear and malfunctioning. For
this reason and in case of calcium precipitation, use kalkwasser, etc the pump and the impeller should be
washed with Magi-Klean or in diluted hydrochloric acid.
Quick monthly step by step maintenance procedure
•
Turn off your feed pump or stop the flow of water from the aquarium.
•
Unplug from the mains the foaming pump/pumps.
•
Loosen the connector fitting between both inlet and outlet whilst supporting the pump with one hand. (fig
22 )
•
Once loosened and the threads exposed the pump can be gently removed. Repeat this operation for Per-
former skimmers with multiple foaming pumps.
•
Now that the pump/pumps have been removed please check your sump to establish that the flow is turned
off and that sufficient space is available for any additional water volume.
•
With the pump cable to the base, remove the red front fitting on the Seltz pump noting the position of the
pipe work for refitting. Remove the gray plastic pipe work.
•
Carefully remove the plastic impellor cover and then the Impellor. These should be cleaned with a tooth-
brush in clean water
•
With the impellor removed clean the down the impellor housing with a toothbrush or small bottle brush.
We recommend a little water to loosen any dried salt.
•
Rinse the impellor housing with clean water (the pump is submersible).
•
Re-assemble the impellor and pipe-work in reverse of dismantling.
•
A check can now be done for leaks and any re adjustment to the venture flow.
We also recommend that the airline feeding the pump connector is checked for salt build up regularly, as
even the slightest blockage here will reduce airflow to your skimmer.
You will need to turn off the pump and shut off the water flow in order to remove the small bore pipe should
it need cleaning. Warm water should be used to soften the salt to clean the pipe, then the pipe can be reas-
sembled and the Performer Skimmer turned back on.
This cleaning routine will ensure that your pump not only provides excellent foaming but will also ensure
problem free continuous running.
