Setting up the Portable Fall Arrest (PFA) Post
The Miller PFA Post has been designed for use in a permanent
or portable nature using Miller approved bases. All information
necessary to properly install these bases is found in the appro-
priate section of this manual.
1.
Prior to setting up and using equipment for fall arrest or
confined space entry ensure that all necessary equip-
ment needed to ensure all duties are carried out safely
are available and used in order to meet all the applicable
safety standards for your region. Note: Standards vary
by region. It is the responsibility of the owner/user of their
equipment to adhere to the applicable standards and regu-
lations necessary as part of the PFA System.
2.
Set up and place the anchor base to be used in an ap-
propriate location where the post pins can be accessed
easily. Also, be sure fall hazards lie within a 6' radius of
the mounting base. (See PFA Post Load Capacity Chart in
this section) Make sure that the surface for attaching (for
either permanent or portable base) is structurally sound
and free of corrosion.
- Attach post to the two "ears" on the receiving base. (see A)
- Ensure that the holes from the post line up to the holes on the base and insert 3/4" pin through. (see "B)

3.
Extend post height by loosening the red tri screw on lowest section of post (only if tightened) and removing the
pin lanyard assembly that is inserted through the post.
4.
Use appropriate base and/or red adjuster screws located at the bottom of post. Simply loosen and/or tighten to
achieve vertical position.
5.
Depending on the application and standards/regulations for confined space en-
try and retrieval/rescue, use of a personal Fall Arrest System may be needed.
It is the responsibility of the operator to be aware of these regulations and
adhere to them. Note: – Remember to wear full body harness as part of the
Personal Fall Arrest System to minimize personal injury
6.
Once the system has been set up be sure to inspect all parts for wear,
damage, corrosion, etc. If any deficiencies are found the system should be
removed from service and marked with a red "DO NOT USE" tag until
repairs can be completed and system is put back into use.
7.
Connect the fall arrest device to the anchor ring using an appropriate connector.
