ly adjusted by the camera. Some cameras automa-
tically activate slow synchronisation in connection
with certain programs (e.g. night shots program,
etc.) or permit slow synchronisation to be set (see
operating instructions for the given camera). No
settings are made on the flash unit nor is there any
display for this mode.
Use a tripod to avoid camera shake with slow
shutter speeds!

6.10.4 FP high-speed synchronisation

FP (focal plane) high speed synchronisation is sup-
ported by various Nikon cameras. This flash mode
permits a flash unit to be used at shutter speeds
faster than the flash sync speed. This mode is par-
ticularly interesting in portraiture with very bright
ambient light when the depth of field is to be limi-
ted by a wide open lens (e.g. f/2.0).
The mecablitz 45 CL-4 digital and 54 MZ-... sup-
ports high speed synchronisation. The HSS flash
mode can be additionally activated in the manual
mode M of the flash unit.
The light output or flash duration can be adapted to
the individual shooting situation by setting a partial
light output level from P1/1 to P1/256 (see opera-
ting instructions for the flash unit).
Due to physical reasons, the HSS flash mode sigi-
nificantly reduces the guide number and maximum
flash range of the flash unit. You should therefore
pay attention to the maximum flash range indica-
ted on the flash unit's LC display or refer to the
technical specifications given in the flash unit's
operating instructions.
