Ultrasound consists of high-frequency sound waves which are

light.
Hard substances (walls, ceilings, furniture, glass, etc.) promote
better spreading out of the sound waves, as they bounce off
these surfaces, whereas soft materials (cardboard, curtains,
carpeting, etc.) absorb the sound waves.
