LEVEL
The performance is based on the amount of impact transmission measured in kN (kilo Newton).
The EN 1621-2:2014 provides 2 Levels of protection: Level 1 and Level 2. According to EN 1621-
5
2:2014 : Level 1 protectors shall have an average peak force below 18 k N and each single strike shall
not exceed 24 k N Level 2 protectors shall have an average peak force below 9 k N. and each single
strike shall not exceed 12 k N.
The EN 1621-1 (shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, leg) standard provides 2 Levels of protection: Level 1 and
6
Level 2. Level 1 protectors shall have an overall mean value below 35 k N, each single strike shall not
exceed 35 k N in the area I, and 50 k N in the area II and III. Level 2 protectors shall have an overall
mean value below 20 k N, each single strike shall not exceed 20 k N in the area I, and 30 k N in the
area II and III.
Level 2 protectors offer higher performance than Level 1 protectors.
Level 2 protectors offer the highest Level specified by the CE standard. Due to the extra Level of
protection Level 2 protectors may be heavier, thicker and less ergonomic than the Level 1 protectors.
It is up to the responsibility of the rider to choose the correct Level of protection according to their
needs, their experience, their performance and skills.
