4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 General
This section is a general introduction to the operation of the generator and must
be read carefully before using the instrument for the first time.
4.1.1 Power-up
The ON-switch is in the lower left hand side of the front panel.
When it is switched on, the generator shows the verification software that has
been installed on it for 2 seconds, before going on to the main menu; the RF OUT
outlet is disconnected, but all the other adjustments are the same as those that are
carried out when the instrument was last switched off. In case of error in the battery
fed RAM, a message will appear when the instrument is switched on (See the "Error
Messages " section ).
All the basic parameters of the generator can be configured from the main
menu just as is described in the following sections. The output device is connected
with the RF OUT Key and the ON light lights up to show that the output device is
connected.
4.1.2 Keyboard Principles
The keys can be considered in the following groups:
•
The numerical and unit keys allow a value to be introduced directly for the
selected parameter (which is indicated by means of the cursor
the parameter). Thus, if the selected frequency is 123.456 MHz, one must
type 1, 2, 3, • , 4, 5, 6 MHz to configure it. The parameter only changes
when the unit key is pressed (dB, MHz, etc.).
The FREQUENCY value can be entered either in kHz or MHz, but it will
always be shown in MHz. The LEVEL value can be entered in dBm, mV or
µV; values given in mV that are under 1.00mV will be shown in µV and
values in µV over 1000 µV will be shown in mV. When the cursor
LEVEL, the indicated value can be changed from dBm to µV/mV and vice
versa by pressing the corresponding key.
To introduce negative numbers (for dB) the ± key can be used at any time
while entering the digits.
The ESCAPE key cancels the entered values and leaves the parameter in
its previous configuration.
