Changing the cutting blade
Wear protective gloves when changing the
cutting blade. First remove the spark plug
cap.
Only use original spare parts when changing the
cutting blade. The blade designation must be identical
with the part number specified in the spare parts list.
Never install a third party blade.
To assist you, use a retaining pin to arrest the blade
(Fig. 9). The blade fixing screw has a standard right-
hand thread. To release this screw, it is recommended
you use a 21 mm socket spanner (spark plug socket) or
an Allen key, i.e. 8 mm or 5/16". Re-assemble the
friction clutch in reverse order (Fig. 9). Secure the blade
bolt with the specified torque of 45 Nm (4.5 mkp).
Damaged cutting blades
If, in spite of all caution, the cutting blade impacts on
debris/an obstacle, first shut down the engine and
remove the spark plug cap. When the blade has come
to a complete stop, tip the mower up and check the
blade for possible damage (Fig. 7). Never try and
straighten deformed or bent blades. Immediately
replace damaged parts. After the cutting blade has
struck an obstacle, ask your local authorised service
shop to inspect the mower. Ensure before taking the
machine into use, that cutting blade and its fasteners
are in perfect condition. If required, replace such
components or have them inspected by an expert.
Never operate with a blade which is out of balance –
this causes vibrations and can cause serious damage.
Sharpening the cutting blade
Note: The cutting edges may be sharpened
with a metal file. Better results are achieved
by sharpening/grinding the cutting blade in
the service shop. The workshop also ensures
that an equal amount is ground off each side
of the blade to ensure it stays balanced. The
cutting edge must only be sharpened up to
the designation stamp (Fig. 10).

Checking the oil level

Please note: The engine oil influences the
performance and service life of your
machine. Never operate the engine without
or without enough oil; this causes severe damage to the
engine. Subject to air temperature and height above
sea level, you will find the optimum viscosity in the
type-specific engine operating instructions.
Checking the oil level:
1. Position the lawn mower with all wheels absolutely
horizontal.
2. Unscrew the oil filler cap (item 10) anti-clockwise
and wipe the dipstick.
3. Reinsert the dipstick as far as possible into the oil
filler, but do not screw down.
4. Withdraw the dipstick and check the oil level
holding it horizontally. The oil level must be
between the maximum and minimum mark.
Oil change (four-stroke engine)
You may drain the engine oil either via the oil drain
plug or via the oil filler (item 10). To reach the oil drain
plug, remove the cutting blade and steel cover (Fig. 9).
Particularly observe the maintenance instructions in the
separate engine operating instructions. When draining
the engine oil via the oil filler (item 10), slowly tip the
mower (at operating temperature) with an empty fuel
tank and closed oil filler cap onto that side, where the
filler is located. Wait a few minutes before collecting
the oil, then unscrew the oil filler cap and catch the oil
in a suitable container. Dispose of the old oil in line
with local regulations.
Note: Four-stroke lawnmowers may only be
tipped for a short time onto that side, which
is identified on the chassis by a special label.

Air filter maintenance

Note: Contaminated air filters reduce engine
performance through insufficient air supply to the
carburettor. Regular checks, in particular under dusty
conditions, are therefore essential.
Please note: Never clean air filter elements
with petrol or other flammable solvents.
Risk of fire or explosion.
Observe the notes and instructions in the type-specific
engine operating instructions.
Important information
[In Germany,] lawnmowers may only be
operated on weekdays between 07:00 and
19:00 h.
Quiet lawnmowers certified to operate with a noise
level below 88 dB(A), may also be used on weekdays
between 19:00 and 22:00 h.
Observe legal requirements, which may be different
from one location to the next.
Noise is detrimental to well-being. Wear ear
defenders to prevent damage to your
hearing, if you use this equipment
permanently.
