Two different methods of disinfecting the parts may be used. Disinfecting daily
by soaking in a vinegar solution or using a commercially available medical
disinfectant. If your physician or respiratory therapist specifies a different
cleaning procedure follow their instructions.
Disinfect the nebulizer and the mask or mouthpiece after the last
treatment of each day.
VINEGAR METHOD
1. Make a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts distilled water.
Make enough solution to submerge the parts.
2. Remove the mouthpiece or mask from the nebulizer.
3. Disconnect the air tubing from the nebulizer.
4. Gently twist and pull the nebulizer to separate the nebulizer into two sections.
5. Remove the funnel from the bottom section of the nebulizer.
6. Wash both sections of the nebulizer, mouthpiece or mask, and funnel in
warm water and mild detergent and rinse in hot tap water, or wash
in the dishwasher.
7. Submerge the parts in the white vinegar and distilled water solution
for 30 minutes.
8. Remove the parts and discard the solution. Rinse the parts with hot tap water.
9. Dry with clean paper towels or allow the parts to air dry in a clean environment.
10. Assemble the device. Put the parts in a dry, sealed bag and place in the
storage pocket of the carrying bag.
