Setting the Digital Out format
If you are using the optical digital audio out jack to connect your DIRECTV
a digital audio receiver, you should use this preference setting to tell your DIRECTV
Receiver whether your audio receiver processes PCM digital audio signals or Dolby Digital
audio signals. See the manual for your audio receiver if you are not sure.
To set the Digital Out format preference, follow these steps:
Press the MENU button on your remote control.

Highlight the Setup menu item, then press the SELECT button.

Highlight the Preferences menu item, then press the SELECT button.

Highlight the Audio menu item, then press the SELECT button.

The Audio menu appears.
Highlight the Digital Out menu item, then press the SELECT button.

A list appears from which you can choose Dolby Digital or PCM audio formats.
Highlight the format supported by your audio receiver,

then press the SELECT button.
When you select a format the Digital Out list disappears.
Your selection is indicated in the Digital Out line on the
Audio menu.

Setting the analog out preference

Depending on the particular program being broadcast, you can listen to stereo, mono,

or a Separate Audio Program. (SAP audio is usually a foreign-language translation.

Sometimes SAP has unrelated information like news or weather.)
To set the Analog Audio preference, follow these steps:

Highlight the Setup menu item, then press the SELECT button.
Highlight the Preferences menu item, then press the SELECT
button.
Highlight the Audio menu item, then press the SELECT button. The Audio menu appears.
The Analog Audio menu item is highlighted.
Press the SELECT button on your remote control to display the list of available audio format.
A list of audio format appears.
Highlight the audio format you wish to use, then press the SELECT button. A list appears from
which you can choose Mono, Stereo, or SAP. When you select an audio format, the list
disappears. Your selection is indicated in the Analog Audio line on the Audio menu.
Choose Stereo for channels that are broadcasting in stereo.
Choose Mono for channels that are broadcasting in mono, or if you are having difficulty receiving a stereo signal.
Choose SAP to listen to the Separate Audio Program, which is usually a foreign-language translation.
