4. Place the DTS sticker on the spool to cover the hole. This is to prevent
the patient and/or anyone other than the healthcare provider from
adjusting the spool.
5. Provide Instructions for Use to the patient. Instruct the patient never
to remove the DTS sticker and never to adjust the spool (Figure 9).
Note: All straps can be trimmed or adjusted to length. Remember, straps
should not restrict circulation or cause cramping during use.
RE-TENSIONING DYNAMIC TENSIONING SYSTEM
1. Remove brace from leg if patient is still wearing the brace.
2. Unfasten the DTS system from the upper liner.
3. Flip the DTS system so the underside is exposed.
4. Insert a pen into the hole in the pawl and apply outward force in the
direction of the arrow to disengage the pawl from the spool. While
holding the pawl in the disengaged position, pull the cable out of the
DTS, (this will unwind the cable and cause the spool to spin in the
counter clockwise direction) until the DTS slides freely on the cable
(Figure 10).
5. Center the DTS by pulling the DTS away from the brace and centering
it between the uprights, (ensure that the cable is equal length on each
side of the DTS) (Figure 11).
6. Place the desired shear knob into the hole on the spool and slowly turn
the shear knob in the clockwise direction approximately a half turn to
lock the DTS onto cable.
7. Flip the DTS back over and re-affix in its original position on the upper
thigh liner. Note: The cables should be loose but of equal length on
each side of the DTS.
8. Repeat steps 1–8 in the "Initial Brace Application" instructions and
steps 1–5 in the "Setting Initial Tension" to re-tension the DTS.
RANGE OF MOTION ADJUSTMENT (ROM)
Adjustment should be performed by a health care professional. The brace
comes with 0° extension stops and 90° flexion stops attached to the
hinges. If needed, ROM control can be adjusted using the extension and
flexion stops. Extension stops are labeled 0°, 5°, 10°, 20°, 30°, and 40°.
Flexion stops are 0°, 15°, 25°, 35°, 45°, 55°, 65°, 75°, 90° and 105°.
Brace must have an extension stop in hinge installed at all times
during use.
ADJUSTING THE ROM
1. Remove the condyle pads from the medial and lateral hinges. Remove
retaining screws. Using a screwdriver or pen, slide the 0° stop out of
the hinge on both sides.
2. Re-apply the desired extension stop and gently secure it with the
retaining screw (Do not over tighten).
3. Follow the same procedure to change the flexion stop.
CONDYLE PAD ADJUSTMENT
Attached to the hinges are the standard size pads. Pairs of thicker and
thinner pads are included. The pads should lightly touch the medial and
lateral condyles of the knee.
BRACE MAINTENANCE
The brace is designed for minimum maintenance and care. Follow these
