Installing the mounting plate on your vehicle continued
Place your spare tire back on the vehicle, covering the mounting plate, taking care
to securely re-tighten your lug nuts. The mounting plate's tube should be
protruding from the center of the wheel (Fig. 9). Be sure your tire is properly
inflated before installing rack to mounting plate.
Installing the rack to the mounting plate
Attach the rack to the car by sliding the Mounting Tube over the square tube
on the Mounting Plate. Position the bumper pads so they make contact with
the tire. See Fig. 10. The rack or bumpers must be pressed snug against the
tire for proper installation.
Safety Overlap: The mounting tube needs to slide approximately 1 ¼" over the tube
protruding from the wheel. There is a small hole on the top of the mounting tube
and the inner tube should be visible through the hole. If you cannot see inside the hole due to your tire size, then either make an approximate
measurement or insert a straightened paper clip into the hole and check if you can make contact with the inner tube. See Fig. 11.
Installing the rack to the mounting plate
1.
In the case you need additional space to bring the rack closer to the tire,
remove the rubber bumpers.
2.
Place the split washer and then the center washer onto the correct bolt
and install into the Mounting Tube. Tighten securely. See Fig. 12 A&B
3.
Attach the cover plate with the cover plate bolt B threaded locking knob.
The lock L and bolt can be mounted on either side. Use hex key H to tighten
bolt. See Fig. 13. To use the lock, turn the key so that the knob does not
on its treaded rod. The insert and thread the lock on securely. Turn the key
again so the lock can spin freely and remove the key. Please record the key
number in case you lose it! Lock can be used on either left or right side.
Mounting Bikes to the Rack:
Push up the spring loaded bicycle support arm. Rotate the
arms outward. Arms should drop into slot in a locked position
when carrying bikes and remain in a folded position when not
in use. Support arm cradles can be re-adjusted to the desired
position.
With the support arms in the outward, locked position, mount
the first bicycle into the bike cradles and pull the strap snugly
over the frame. Rotate the bike's pedal arm so the pedal will
not be in contact with the car's body or the tire. Be sure the
wheels are at least 12"/30cm from the exhaust pipe, and the
wheels can clear a steep driveway. Mount the second bike into
the cradles and secure with rubber straps. Handlebars should
be on the opposite side of the car (fig. 18).
Use the attached safety/ tie down strap and tie-downs K to
secure the bike(s) to the rack by wrapping the strap through
the bike's frame and through the rack (Fig. 16). When not
carrying bikes, wrap the loose end of the strap around the
center cross bar and re-attach it to the buckle (Fig 15A&B)
