Safety instructions
Storatherm Aqua is an indirect fired storage tank for heating domestic
water.
Importance of this document:
Carefully read the instructions before installation, commissioning,
operation or maintenance and follow the instructions. Always pass
the instructions on to the current system operator and save them for
later use.
Target group:
The storage tank must only be installed, connected, commissioned,
maintained and modified by skilled and appropriately qualified
specialists.
Warnings:
Observe and comply with the warnings in these instructions.
Identification of important warnings:
Warning. Indicates dangers that may result in severe and/
or fatal injuries.
Caution. Indicates dangers that may result in injuries or
health risks.
Attention. Indicates dangers that may result in damage to
the system or malfunctions.
Note. Additional notes or information.
General safety instructions:
• Comply with the national statutory regulations and provisions in the
country of installation (accident prevention, environmental protection,
safe and professional work practices, etc.).
• Make sure that the system is depressurised before carrying out
installation, disassembly or maintenance work on the storage tank.
• The prescribed personal protective equipment must be worn during
all work.
• Risk of burns! The escape of hot media may result in burns. Maintain
an appropriate distance from the escaping medium.
• When replacing parts, only use original spare parts from the
manufacturer.
Safety instructions regarding transportation, setup and installation:
• Improper transportation may result in damage to the storage tank.
Use suitable transport restraints to secure the storage tank.
• Storage tanks are heavy. They therefore pose a risk of injury or
accidents. Use suitable lifting equipment for transportation and
installation.
• The installation location must be a closed-off, dry and frost-free room
that cannot be flooded.
• The distance between the storage tank and the ceiling must be
> 400 mm; the distance between the storage tank and the wall must
be > 200 mm.
• Ensure that the fastening is secure and that the load capacity and
the structure of the building are sufficient. Also take the load of the
maximum capacity of the tank into consideration in the calculation.
Use fastening material that corresponds to the static requirements,
as well as the respective wall or floor types. Ensure stress-free and
vibration-free installation.
• A collection tray with a connected drain must be used, particularly if
the tank is installed in the roof space. The collection tray must be the
same size as the tank.
• Risk to health due to poor hygiene! The domestic water can become
contaminated if installation work is not carried out hygienically.
Ensure that the storage tank is installed hygienically in line with
current engineering practices.
• In the case of water installations involving two or more metals, the
base metals must come before the noble metals in the direction of flow.
• Install a drain valve at the return and cold water pipes.
• Mount a type-tested safety valve with a max. cut-out pressure of
10 bar above a drain valve.
• Install the drain pipe of the safety valve so that its end is positioned
above a drainage point in a frost-proof area, and is clearly visible.
The drain pipe must have at least the same cross-section as that of
the safety valve outlet.
• Improper installation of the safety valve may result in damage to the
storage tank due to the permissible operating pressure being
exceeded. Install and set the safety valve correctly.
• During the heating phase, water escapes at the safety valve due to
expansion. Do not close the safety valve.
• Before completion of the installation, it is essential to carry out a
leakage test of the water-carrying elements, as well as a function test.
Intended use:
The Storatherm storage tank must only be used to heat domestic water.
Non-compliance and any other use is considered improper and will
lead to the exclusion of liability and void the guarantee. In particular,
the following is considered improper use:
• Mobile use
• Outdoor use
• Use with mineral oils
• Use with flammable media
• Use with distilled water or water with a conductivity of < 120 μS/cm
• Use in refrigeration systems due to thermal insulation that is not
diffusion-resistant
Liability:
No guarantee or liability in cases of:
• Non-compliance with the instructions
• Incorrect installation and/or operation
• Installation and/or operation of a faulty product
• Independent modifications to the product
• Other incorrect operation
Maintenance:
• A depleted anode may result in premature corrosion damage.
Depending on the local water quality, the anode must be checked at
least every two years and replaced immediately, where necessary.
• The storage tank must be descaled at regular intervals or, in the case
of soft water, cleaned to remove any sludge that has been deposited.
Disposal:
Disposal must only be carried out by specialist personnel. Drain oper-
ating supplies and consumables into suitable containers and ensure
correct disposal. At the end of its service life, dismantle the storage
tank into its various separable materials and send it to a specialist
company for recycling.
Standards/directives to be observed:
• EN 806
• EN 1717: 2011-08
• DIN 1988
