3 • INSTALLATION / ASSEMBLY / CONNECTION
3.1 Before installing the device, observe the following:
• Switch off the power supply.
• When installing, the individual requirements of each building/house should be taken
into account.
• The range of the signals between sensors and actuators is dependent on the local
conditions.
• Signals may be attenuated by various factors. If attenuation is too great, the actuators
will not detect the signal and will switch unreliably or not at all.
• If several factors in the following list are present, we recommend that you connect the
EPL modules provisionally and check their function before installing them permanently.
If the actuators switch unreliably or not at all, you will find practical advice under
Point 5.
• The following conditions in the mains may attenuate the signal:
- A large number of:
• switch-mode power supplies e.g. in PCs or electronic transformers
• electronic ballasts (EBs)
• energy saving lights
• compensation capacitors
- Transmission through earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs/RCDs)
- Transmission in another phase/phase conductor
- Transmission through electrical distribution boards
- very long cable lengths (200 m - 300 m) between the EPL modules
- Transmission systems for the 230 V supply from other manufacturers (e.g. for
Internet, LAN, baby monitor)
- UPS units
- Inverters
- Large capacitive/inductive loads
Note the switch-on currents for the loads to be switched.
3.2 Assembly
• Fit the EPL modules in switch or junction boxes. Leave the covers open until final
activation/programming. The rotary knobs must be accessible with a screwdriver.
• If there is not sufficient space behind the switches, a separate box with dummy cover
must be provided for the EPL module.
• Ensure that the EPL modules each have L and N available.
• Connect the EPL modules in accordance with the relevant circuit diagrams (see page 112 - 113).
• EPL-Transmitter/RC
- Connect the mounting base of the RCi motion detector as described in its instructions.
- Simply plug the EPL-Transmitter/RC onto the RCi mounting base until it clicks into
place. The electrical connection is made automatically via the in-built connector.
