General safety notes

2.1 Intended use

The battery-operated hydraulic cutting tool
EPG CUT 40 is intended for cutting copper and
aluminium cables up to a maximum diameter of
40 mm.
The tool must only be used according to these
instructions and within the technical limits de-
scribed. Use of the tool for operations different
from those intended could result in a dangerous
situation.
Intended use also includes paying attention to
the documentation.

2.2 Personal safety

The tool may only be operated by
electrical specialists.
Eye protection must be used due to
the risk of hurled loose wire ends.
Protective gloves must be used due
to the risk of hand injury.
Safety shoes must be used due to
the risk of foot injury.
The typical A-weighted sound pres-
sure level does not exceed 70 dB
(A). The value can exceed 85 dB
(A) during operation. Hearing pro-
tection must be used.
A face protection must be used due
to the risk of face injury.
– The tool may only be operated by hand. It
must not be used stationary placed on the
floor or clamped with clamping devices or in
a vice.
– During operation a loose conductor end can
be hurled. Bystanders shall be kept away
from the working area while operating the
tool.

– Always safeguard the tool against falling by
using the hand strap.

2.3 Electrical safety

– The tool is not suitable for work on ener-
gised parts. Before commencing work, care-
fully check that there are no energised parts
in the work area. If necessary, precautions
must be taken when working near energised
parts.
– Water entering the tool will increase the risk
of electric shock. Do not expose electric
power tools to rain or wet conditions.
– An electric power tool that cannot be
switched on or off is dangerous and must be
repaired. Do not use the tool, if the switches
or other components are defective.
– If there is an oil leak, the tool must be sent
back to the manufacturer.
– Do not open the tool, the battery, or the bat-
tery charger. If the seal is damaged, any
guarantee or warranty claims will be void.

2.4 Battery use

– Only use the supplied battery and battery
charger with the tool. Read the supplied in-
struction manual for the battery charger.
– Defective or modified batteries may lead to
risk of fire or explosion. Do not use a defec-
tive or modified battery.
– A short-circuit between the battery terminals
can lead to risk of burns or fire. Keep un-
used batteries away from paper clips, coins,
keys, nails, screws, or other small metal ob-
jects that could make a connection from one
terminal to another.
– Incorrect use may cause liquid to be ejected
from the battery. Liquid leaking out of the
battery may cause skin irritation or burns. If
contact occurs, flush with water. If the liquid
should come into contact with your eyes, ad-
ditionally seek medical help.
– Fire or temperatures above 130 °C (266 °F)
may cause the battery to explode. Do not
expose the battery to fire or high tempera-
tures.
