Then the entire unit must be carefully re-inserted into the
transmitter. The base of the housing must be replaced. Now the
scanner is ready for operation.

In order to switch a ROYALevo transmitter with scanner module
to scanning operation, the switched off transmitter must be
switched on while simultaneously pressing the digital adjustment
activation key (see fig. 3).
The following display will now appear (see fig. 4):
The first line indicates the channel with the transmitter frequency
which is currently being scanned.
The vertical arrow pointing downwards indicates the position of
the channel on the graphical display.
The second line shows a range of operating options in the
scanning operation.

During the scanning operation, two operating modes are
available. By pressing the "Enter" key, it is possible to toggle
"Auto" and "Manu":

Note:
Only the selected channels and the two neighbouring
channels are scanned, and the display of the corresponding
signal strength (field strength) is updated. In all the other
channels shown in the diagram, the value measured last of
all is displayed until the channel has been re-measured.

During scanning operation "Auto", all the channels are
automatically scanned. In the display, 18 channels can be
shown next to each other. If there are more than 18
channels, the area shown continuously changes.
In order to get a better overview, the scanning range can be
restricted.

The maximum measured field strengths per channel since the
start of the scanning operation are saved and shown as a thin
bar. This allows a good overview over a long time period and
beyond the current results found and indicated during operation
in the scanning mode.

The signals received on the individual channels are shown in the
form of a bar chart. The height of the bars shown is an
approximate measure of the field strength. However, the values
do not allow any conclusions about the absolute strength of the
transmitter signal to be drawn. This is not a fault of the scanner
but is caused by the constantly changing reception conditions
during which the measurement is being made (e.g. constellation
of the antennae with respect to each other, weather conditions,
geographic conditions, ...). The scanner cannot fulfil the function
of a measuring tool for objective field strength measurements.
In order to assess the scanning result in the form of a bar chart,
some knowledge, and in particular experience with the handling
of the scanner in practice, are required, so that it is possible to
judge whether a channel really is occupied and whether
operation on this channel really is not possible.
The example in fig. 5 shows the manual scanning operation. Here
channel 79 is being tested. Channel number and frequency of
this channel are indicated in the first line.
In practice, the image found during scanning will often be similar
to a bell shape, as shown in the diagram above. This will always
happen if a transmitter is being operated close by (as in the
example of channel 79 given here). This is normal, as every
transmitter also interferes with the much weaker signal on its
neighbouring channels. Modern remote control receivers have,
however, such a narrow bandwidth that these signals remain
insignificant. Therefore, operation on one of the neighbouring
channels is possible without restriction, because the transmitter
signal is much stronger than the field strength on any of the
neighbouring channels within the bell curve.
Figure 6 shows a situation in which most of the channels are
free. Only 4 channels are busy. Three of these are occupied by
transmitters which are being operated close by or by a very
strong interference signal from other sources (72, 77, 79). The
half-height bar (73) indicates a transmitter which is further away
or which is being operated with its antenna pushed in. It might
also have originated from a weaker interference signal.
The judgement as to whether operation is possible can be made
by comparing the bar heights. Should the bar on the desired
channel exceed approximately 25% of the maximum field
strength, this channel must be regarded as occupied. Smaller
