1. Using the Product as Intended

This model is to be used only with an operating system
designed for it (Märklin AC, Märklin Delta, Märklin Digital,
DCC or Märklin Systems).

2. Safety Notes

Make sure you read the following safety notes before using
this Märklin product for the first time.
• The distilled water required for this model is not suitable
for human consumption. In case of injury from accidental
consumption of distilled water, go immediately to your
doctor or an emergency clinic.
• Use only switched mode power supply units and transfor-
mers that are designed for your local power system.
• This model may be supplied with power only from an
appropriate power source. (example: DC 18V / max. 36VA).
• Pay close attention to the safety notes in the
instructions for your operating system.
• The feeder track must be equipped to prevent interference
with radio and television reception, when the model is to
be run in conventional operation. The 74046 interference
suppression set is to be used for this purpose.
• WARNING! Sharp edges and points required for operation.
• Do not expose the model to direct sunlight, extreme
changes in temperature, or high humidity.
• The LEDs in this item correspond to Laser Class 1 accor-
ding to Standard EN 60825-1.

2.1 Important Notes

• This locomotive has a built-in steam unit based on cold
steam. It therefore has two openings on the roof. One
opening is for filling the locomotive with distilled water, and
the cold steam unit is built into the other opening.
• The operating instructions and the packaging are a
component part of the product and must therefore be kept
as well as transferred along with the product to others.
• Maintenance, servicing, and repairs may only be done by
adults.
• When lubricating the locomotive mechanism make sure
before putting the locomotive body back on that the
gasket rings for the cold steam unit and the water tank
are placed correctly. See the illustration on Page 40.
• Please see your authorized Märklin dealer for repairs or
spare parts.
• The warranty card included with this product specifies
the warranty conditions.

2.2 Notes about the Cold Steam Unit

• Only distilled water should be used for the cold steam
unit. This type of water is not included with the locomoti-
ve.
• The steam slot on the cold steam unit may not be covered
when the unit is in operation.
• During operation, an air bubble may form at the steam
opening, which will hinder the production of steam.
This can be prevented by blowing lightly into the steam
opening. In most cases, the air bubble will dissolve on its
own after a short time.
• If possible, operate the cold steam unit only when the
locomotive is running. Otherwise, too much moisture can
