SEALS
Pour sealing compound into approved sealing fittings in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions. Verify correct conduit seal selected for wire fill based on wiring method.
EMPX OPERATOR INSTALLATION
Crouse-Hinds series EMPX operators are available for use with the EIC motor control series.
EMPX operators can be installed before or after components are secured to the mounting
plate. Consult Eaton's Crouse-Hinds Division's catalog for details. Reference IF 1857 for
further information on EMPX operators.
To avoid risk to personnel, electrical power must be OFF and the area free from
flammable gases or vapors before and during installation and maintenance.
Check wire routing by opening cover as wide as possible and then closely observe whether
wires rub on the flange surface, or any other surfaces/edges that could cause damage.
To maintain environmental ratings, new EMPX operators installed in the field
must be secured with a locknut to maintain IP66 rating.
OTHER ELECTRICAL OPTIONS
See Table 2 for other components that can be added to an EIC enclosure. See the EIC
replacement parts list for information on how to separately order replacement parts.
EIC MAINTENANCE
1.
Frequent inspection should be made of the enclosure, operators and internal
components. A maintenance schedule for maintenance checks should be determined
by the environment and frequency of use. It is recommended that it should be at
least once a year.
2.
Perform visual, electrical and mechanical checks on all components on a regular basis.
•
Visually check for undue heating evidenced by discoloration of wires or other
components, damaged or worn parts or leakage evidenced by water or
corrosion in the interior.
•
Electrically check to make sure that all connections are clean and tight and that
contacts in the components make or break as required.
•
Mechanically check that all parts are properly assembled, and operating
mechanisms move freely.
3.
If the gasket becomes worn, cut or damaged, it can be replaced. Contact factory for
replacement kit and follow installation instructions in IF 1616.
Replacement parts are available through Eaton's Crouse-Hinds Division.
4.
EN60079-14 and EN60079-17 should be followed during installation, operation and
maintenance.
5.
The following are schedule of limitations that must be followed:
•
Rotating machines, or other devices which create turbulence, shall not be
incorporated.
•
Oil-filled circuit breakers and contactors shall not be used.
•
The content of the Ex component enclosure equipment may be placed in any
arrangement provided that an area of at least 40% of each cross-sectional area
remains free.
•
Unused entries must be plugged using suitably certified blanking elements.
•
Entry to the enclosure must be made by suitably certified cable gland or
suitably certified conduit seal installed at the enclosure wall.
•
Internal earthing connection must be provided by the end-user.
•
Primary and secondary cells and batteries shall only be used when suitably
certified and additional assessment is carried out against the requirements of
EN60079-1:2007 Annex E.
•
Drilling and tapping of holes is only permitted by the enclosure manufacturer.
