Setting up Out-feed Fence for
Joining (Fig . 18)
For joining operations, the out-feed fence can
be moved up to 1/4 in. (6.3 mm) forward of the
in-feed fence to support the workpiece after it
passes across the router bit.
1. Loosen the out-feed clamping knob (Fig. 18).
2. Move the out-feed fence forward of the in-
feed fence to a distance equal to the width of
material to be removed from the workpiece.
3. Loosen the four sideways clamping knobs.
Slide both fence faceplates toward the bit to
minimize the space between the faceplates
and the router bit. Securely tighten the
sideways clamping knobs.
4. Loosen the two fence assembly clamping knobs and then move the entire fence assembly
so that the faceplate of the out-feed fence face is aligned with the front of the router bit. Use
a straight edge if necessary. Tighten the two fence assembly clamping knobs.
Using Featherboards (Fig . 19)
Featherboards are helpful for controlling the
workpiece while routing, and they assist in
keeping the workpiece flat on the tabletop
and snug against the fence. The tabletop
featherboard, combined with the fence
featherboard, help to keep the workpiece
pressed against the fence and tabletop. The
best location for the featherboards varies
according to your application, workpiece size,
and other factors.
1. Loosely install the featherboard attached to
the fence as described in ATTACHING THE
FEATHERBOARDS.
2. Place the workpiece on the router table so
that it is squarely against the fence.
3. Position the featherboards snugly against the workpiece and tighten the featherboard
clamping knobs.
4. The workpiece should move with some resistance but without requiring a great effort.
NOTE: The tabletop featherboard cannot be used for wider workpieces.
