BRASS CLEANING PROCEDURE (FOR RELOADING)
1.
While your batch of brass still has used primers seated (deprimed), run it through the Cleaner for an
initial cleaning. There is no need to use stainless steel pins in this step, since you are not concerned
about cleaning the primer pockets.
The purpose of this step is to clean the brass so it's clean for handling operations (de-priming,
sizing, trimming, deburring).
Using clean processed brass prolongs the life of sizing dies and other reloading equipment, and
also is easier to handle during all steps of the reloading process.
2.
After your brass has been deprimed, sized, trimmed to length, and deburred, the brass is ready for a
second cleaning, which is helpful in removing case lube from the case sizing.
To ensure the inside of the case and primer pockets are fully clean, add 5 lbs. of Stainless Steel
media (provided) to the batch of brass as outlined in the CLEANER OPERATION section.
CLEANER OPERATION
1.
Remove Cap, Plug and Seal from the Drum.
2.
Add a weighed quantity of dirty brass.
3.
(Optional)- if you want the inside of the case and primer pocket to
be extra clean, add 5 lbs. of stainless steel media to the drum.
4.
Fill the Drum with a premixed solution of water and RCBS Case
Cleaner at a 40:1 concentration. Total weight of Drum Assembly,
cases, stainless media and liquid cleaning mix is not to exceed 30
pounds (see case weight reference chart for one pound equivalents).
WARNING: CLEANING SOLUTIONS CAN BE CORROSIVE. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND
PROTECTIVE GLOVES WHEN YOU HANDLE CLEANING SOLUTIONS.
5.
Install the Seal, Clear Sealing Plug, and Cap. Check to make sure Cap is fully tightened.
Test the Drum over a sink by turning the drum horizontally, shaking, and rotating it to ensure that
there are no leaks.
NOTE: If the drum leaks, tighten the cap further. If a leak remains, remove the seal, sealing insert and cap
and check to make sure that all the sealing surfaces are dry and free of any debris.
6.
With the Roller Base timer turned off, and the drum fully sealed, place the Cleaner Drum on the Roller
Base rollers.
WARNING: KEEP YOUR HANDS, HAIR AND ALL LOOSE CLOTHING AWAY FROM THE ROLLERS. THEY
MAY PULL, GRAB OR PINCH NEARBY OBJECTS WHEN THEY ARE IN MOTION.
7.
Once the Drum is placed on the Roller Base, move the timer switch to the desired time setting.
Based on amount of brass, brass caliber, and user preference, different time settings may be
selected.
* In general, for 0-500 pieces of brass, 1-2 hours is sufficient for effective cleaning.
* In general, for 500+ pieces of brass 2-3 hours is sufficient for effective cleaning
If the brass is not as clean as you want it to be, simply increase the setting on the timer and run
for a longer period of time. Check the cleanliness of the solution- if dirty, replace the old solution
with new solution, this is necessary when cleaning extremely dirty brass.
NOTE: Any water trapped in the threads will leak out during the first few minutes.
