when installing hitch
1. Bottom fins removal - use 10 mm socket to remove (3) screws from innermost long fins that are connected to chrome piece each side. Use 10 mm socket and
panel removal tool to remove (3) screws and (2) push pins from outermost short fins each side. Unclip all plastic tabs on the fins and gently detach them from
bottom appearance panels, see Figure 2. Set them aside for reinstallation.
2. Front bottom appearance panel removal - use 10 mm socket to remove (3) screws from front end of front bottom appearance panel and (6) screws from
intersection line between front and rear bottom appearance panel. Detach the front bottom appearance panel. Use 10 socket to remove (3) flange nuts from the
studs on trunk pan and (2) screws from chrome piece. Use T30 torxbit socket to remove (2) screws from rear bottom appearance panel. Pull the rear bottom
appearance panel downward and loosen it from studs.
3. Wheel well liners loosening – locate the plastic trim piece inside wheel well liners. Use panel removal tool to remove (2) clips from the bottom and (3) clips from
the side of plastic trim piece each side, see Figure 3. Use panel removal tool and 10 mm socket to remove (1) push pin and (1) flange nut from wheel well liners
each side. Gently pull the wheel well liners back. Use T25 torxbit socket to remove (1) screw from fascia connection point each side.
4. Trunk panel removal – (a) open the hatch and remove the interior carpet liner. (b) use plastic trim tools to loosen the weather stripping around the center trunk
panel. Detach the center trunk panel from (4) snap clips by pulling it upward. (c) detach curved plastic trunk panel near taillight from (2) snap clips by pulling it
towards the center of the trunk each side. (d) behind the carpet liner, temporarily peel off the rectangular adhesive rubber tape both sides. Use 10 mm socket with
extension to remove (1) flange nut from the stud on the back of end panel both sides, see Figure 4.
5. Fascia removal - use plastic trim tools to remove the fascia starting at the outer edges near the wheel wells and gently pull the fascia. Disconnect wiring harness on
passenger side if present, see Figure 5. Carefully set the fascia aside for reinstallation.
6. Bumper beam/Sensor removal – (a) use 15 mm socket to remove (8) factory flange nuts from bumper beam and another (8) factory flange nuts from the bumper
end panel. NOTE: Some models might have 2
remove the sensor located in the center of bumper end panel.
7. Hitch installation – (a) raise the hitch into position and hang it on the studs on the bumper end panel. Torque (4) factory flange nuts to the middle studs each side.
Tighten CL 10 fasteners with torque wrench to 42 Lb.-Ft. (57 N*M). (b) Reinstall the bumper beam to the hitch and bumper end panel. Loosely secure the rest of
factory flange nuts to the bumper beam. See Figure 1. Tighten rest of CL 10 fasteners with torque wrench to 42 Lb.-Ft. (57 N*M). (c) Use cable ties ① to reattach
the sensor to hitch center section, see Figure 1.
8. Fascia trimming - use the drill, jigsaw, and template on next page to trim the chrome piece and plastic piece, see Figure 6.
9. Reinstall the wiring harness, fascia, fasteners, trunk panels, wheel well liners, bottom appearance panel, and bottom fins removed in Step 1-5.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been
damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety specifications and
requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
