1.
Remove (2) 8mm bolts from the rearward hanger bracket on both sides of the vehicle. Remove the (2) 8mm bolts from forward hanger brackets.
2.
For convertibles, take off the support member by removing (14) 10mm bolts to get access to the forward hanger brackets. See Figure 2.
3.
Unhook the (4) hanger brackets to lower exhaust and support the exhaust with a ratchet strap.
4.
Fishwire 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers through the access hole and out the two bottom and one side mounting holes in the frame rail, leave fishwires attached.
5.
Lower exhaust by adjusting ratchet strap until there's enough room for the hitch to slide in. And make sure side brackets are over fishwires.
6.
Remove fishwires and install conical washers and nuts on both sides.
7.
Tighten all 7/16" hitch fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N*M).
8.
Re-hook the hanger brackets and reinstall the M8 bolts removed in Step 1. For convertibles, re-install the support member. Tighten all M8 CL10.9 fasteners with torque wrench to
20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N*M) and all M10 fasteners with torque wrench to 38 Lb.-Ft. (52 N*M).
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Note: Check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch
or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
