These batteries were developped for stationary service in technical
equipment. They are able to supply extremely high currents for short
buffering needs. This and their size-power-relation renders them a
good choice for a motorcycle starting battery. Since they were not
designed for vehicle service, the following points must be observed
on installing.
Disobeyment not only lets the battery be out of service prematurely,
but voids warranty.
The batteries are precharged, they need no recharging before being
put into service (very low self-discharge-rate).
Installation:
• Can be installed in any position except upside down.
• The battery must be protected against vibration. Rubber mats on
bottom and on the sides are recommended.
• The battery must not install to or upon unsprung vehicle masses
(rear swingarms).
• The connecting wires must be laid out tension-free and with the
necessary addition in length to compensate engine or starter-en-
gine movement (a Dyna-Glide- or FXR-engine can „shake" several
centimeters in relation to the battery). Highly flexible wires are a
must (stiff cables cantransfer vibrations to the battery).
• Pole-screw torque must not exceed 5.5 Nm. Correct size wire con-
nectors are to be used.
• The battery must be protected against heat (60°C maximum). If
the battery is to service in a Softail oil tank, it must be packed
in insulation material. Solid rubber mats (s.abv.: vibrationprotec-
tion) are good therefor.
Servicing and recharge:
• Charging voltage must not exceed 15 V. Having the regulator che-
cked before installing a battery is recommended. Charging vol-
tage above 15 V overheat the battery and as a consequence it
might burst. Battery is prone to destroyment with high charging
voltages.
• Taking out the battery from the vehicle during an idle period is not
necessary because of the very low self-discharge-rate. Anyway,
disconnecting the wires is adviced to exclude discharge through

electrical equipment (there is hardly any electronic regulator
which cuts off 100% when the battery is left connected).
• A deeply discharged battery has to be recharged immediately
to avoid damage (attention: max. voltage 15 V). The motorcycle
therefore must be ridden for some period after each start. The
high starting currents may have a deeply discharged battery as a
consequence, if the rides between the starts are too short.
• The pole-screws are to be controlled regularly, observe max.
torque! Possible corrosion on the poles should be removed.
